I was on a breeders website....this is what she wrote

Most of the adult neutered pets that I know, who are the right for their height, eat between one third and three quarters cup of kibble a day. Half a cup a day is the common average, this is the total amount for the day. It can be divided into two meals to make the dog feel like he's getting more. I also add a tablespoon of wet food.

Does this sound right to everyone? Half a cup a day divided into 2 feedings sounds like such a small amount. Anyone??
thanks

I think thats nowhere near enough. Sounds like the easy way out of excercising a dog and keeping them fit. I hear that 2,5 cups twice a day is average. Depends on the individual dog though, I suppose.

it doesn't make a lot of sense, since it depends how many calories a cup of kibble has. there are some that contain less than 200 and some contain over 500 kcal per cup.

the next factor is how much exercise a dog gets. taking a 30-pound dog as an example, it would need an average of 570 ckal per day when fairly inactive, 760 with moderate exercise, and 920 or more with lots of energy-burning exercise.

Gizzy gets about half a cup a day of her kirklands and she is still a little chunky. it jsut depends on what type of food they are on. When she ate pedigree she ate a huge bowl every day.
