I just thought I would update everyone on Cooper. We went and got a third opinion/second specialist opinion/checkup on him today and he is pretty much a lost cause. Severe hip dysplasia (upgraded from moderate to severe a couple months ago), severe osteoporosis, severe spondylosis and severe arthritis. Yeah, he is just broken. Hip replacement wont work because of the osteoporosis, his bones will just crumble around the metal implants. We pretty much just have him on comfort care measures and he probably wont make it to his next rabies shot. He is only 3 years old.

*sigh*

That was my horrible weekend.

Poor Coop. :( You live it up boy. Have fun with your mom for as long as you got. Your one lucky boy to have such a great mom to care so much about you.

such a heartbreak, and such a beautiful boy. Kisses for his ears and a good rub on the neck, lots of love for the time you have left together. :(

Thanks everyone, your throughts really do mean a lot to me. The next hard issue will be just knowing when to let go. He already lies there and pants even when its freezing inside. I just know he is in constant pain.

Oh, Karen . . . my heart just breaks for you and Cooper. He is so handsome and there is such love and sweetness in his eyes. These long good-byes are bittersweet. All my love to you both.

You will know when Cooper is ready to go. You'll see it in his eyes. It's unmistakeable. Hopefully your vet will come to your house when it is time.

What kind of pain management have the vets suggested? See if you can get him a Visco (memory foam) pad to lay on. It retains body heat and should give him a significant amount of comfort when he is lying down.

Keep us up to date, and make sure Cooper knows he has so many people thinking of him and wishing him well.

Oh Kaz :( How heartbreaking, I am so very sorry to hear this..

Cooper has had a lovely life with you, and like Renee said, you will know when he is ready to go. Don't let the opinions of extremely rude people who have never met him get to you.

Karen, I am so sorry! Cooper is such a beautiful boy. Sometimes life is so unfair.

You and Cooper are both in my thoughts and prayers.

To those who are supportive and kind:
Thanks for everything, its very much appreciated and nice to know there are good people in this world.

To that obnoxious young man with nothing better to do that sign up on a forum for the sole purpose of being outrageously rude:
You are wrong, I dont post this on your forum because of you and your need to insult people. I left a year ago for a reason, thanks for hunting me down and giving me your unwanted opinion on something you know nothing about. You made huge assumptions that are unwarranted. The reason we know Cooper is so bad is not because he lies there all day crying, its because Im a vigilant doggy mom who observes their every move and picks up on the small things. He still runs and plays and hunts and kills bicycles. Yes, he does slow down in the evening and prefers the couch to a game of catch, but if you walked into my door, you couldnt tell that something was wrong with him if you didnt stop and really watch when he calmed down. He is falling apart fast, but not to the point where putting him down would make sense, he is still a happy boy.He is getting a surgery that will relieve 98% of pain instantly, and then one day he will crash and thats the day he gets put down. YOU dont know him, YOU arent spending time with him, YOU arent consulting with his vets and getting check ups every 3 months to make sure he maintains a good quality of life. When I say he has a year left, I dont mean until he cant get up, I mean until he just isnt leading a life that a dog named Cooper should be leading.

I dont feel that I had to explain anything to you, I just wanted everyone clear on the situation. Take your self righteous little ego parade and shove it.

Kaz, I am so sorry for what you are going through. Only you know your dog, not some pos that is trying to be hurtful.
