My Pomeranian, Gizmo decided he wanted to get involved with the family barbecue today, sniffing around everything he managed to get too close to the grill and get some old hamburger/cooking grease on his head, ears and neck.
I toweled as much as I could off of him, but it didn't do much good. He's only 5 months old so he's still very soft and very poofy. So I put him in the tub and scrubbed at the dirty spots, using his normal run of the mill dog shampoo. The grease is behind his ears and on his face, so I'm really worried about getting water in his ears or eyes. After drying him off, then letting him run around and dry completely - the fur around his neck and top of his head is still dirty and greasy. I gave him a good brush down, but all it really did was slick his fur down.
Gizmo is obviously annoyed with it, he keeps shaking himself and running the side of his face along the carpet. The poor thing looks so silly, his poofy body and then his tiny little slicked back head.
So, any tips on how to get him clean? I'm hesitant to give him another bath so soon because he has dry skin, but it's pretty obvious the shampoo I have isn't going to cut it. A friend suggested dish-soap, but I'm worried it will damage his coat.
