Off topic but I personally think there is no reason to dock. Yes, I like the looks of Rotts without a tail but.......I do not see a need for it in todays world.

The less of a dog that we cut off the better. :D

I won't comment further except to say that every Rottweiler puppy that ever leaves here will be docked, and when it is outlawed, I will then have a breed that is not traditionally docked.

I am truly curious about this, as I own a breed that is traditionally cropped AND docked, and if it was ever outlawed, it would not change how I felt about the breed -

what are your reasonings behind this? I understand it is personal, but I cannot imagine abandoning my breed just because I couldn't dock their tails. In fact, I've considered importing a tailed dog (be it a dobe OR a rottie) for awhile now...

My thoughts exactly. I started a threat about docking hoping she would post there and explain this to me.

To understand where she is coming from, you have to know what Rottweiler (american who dock) breeders face with the "to dock or not to dock" situation. If there truley are not any reasons left to dock, then to preserve breed history/type/look is enough for me.

I can not agree however that I would love the Rottweiler breed any less if docking was outlawed, but I would fight it with tooth and nail . Red is not the first Rottweiler person I have heard state that thou.It iis something that I will do and continue to do, and until it is outlawed, I will not own a tailed Rottweiler because like mentioned, the American Rottweiler Club and standard call for a DOCKED tail and that is what I, as a American Rottweiler owner/soon to be breeder, follows. I do not care for the look of a tailed Rottweiler and to me doesnt say Rottweiler with a tail.

You can debate it all day long, but this is how I feel and am intitled to my opinions just like everyone else is.

Not red here, but. I have been asked that. The problem is when the are 3 days old and are being docked you have no idea which pup that person will be getting, and which one will be going to show homes...

Absolutely not. I will NEVER sell an undocked Rottweiler puppy. Not ever. :D
Even if they are going to take the dog to another country??
The FCI standar now permits a tail, it dosen't even mention now the option of ducking.

Even here in honduras some of the rottweilers in shows have tails, in mexico many have tails too.

This is a mexican champion http://www.vondergopas.com/index2.htm

Doesn't matter where the dog goes. You can't tell at 3 days which dog would be going. You'd have to not dock an entire litter. Lot of breeders wouldn't be willing to sell a dog that doesn't fit in the breed standard of where they live anyhow though.

I have many requests for non docked CAS.
And I have only one from a DR in NYC that I will sell too because it is a male.
I keep the best females and not clear on that at 3 days.
I also have asked my vet to slowly increase the tail from 3 to 5 digits to get ready for the future.
If they outlaw it in NY I will drive back to Ohio to get it done.

My vet Dr Monte partner is in in 60's and he did allot of Boviers and schnauzers back in the 60's for ear cropping that I did not know of.

I have learned about being online for 10 years that this topic equates to im sorry abortion and religion it brings out "my way or no way" it is best to leave it be.

A Afghani couple got courned at a dog park / show with my CAS FF Palang.
Why do you dock? the owner being from a different culture said to the woman is your husband circumcised? She said yes, Palangs owner said my husband is not we do not believe in doing something only for appearance.
Our dog is a working dog and we prefer this look now please go away.

The woman left with her mouth open

I have to agree,

I would never sell a undocked puppy, because a) again like stated before you dont know which puppy is going to which home and b) none of my puppies would EVER be shipped overseas because Im the type of person that intends to check up on every puppy that leaves here thruout thier life and that does mean visits.

And I do not know, owning a breed that is both cropped AND docked - I think I know exactly what you face. Believe me, the right to crop will be gone long before the right to dock.

the American Rottweiler Club and standard call for a DOCKED tail and that is what I, as a American Rottweiler owner/soon to be breeder, follows. I do not care for the look of a tailed Rottweiler and to me doesnt say Rottweiler with a tail.
Just to play devils advocate, and I agree- you are entitled to feel how you feel, we all are. That is the beauty of purebred dogs - we have them in part, because of what the dogs look like. The Rottie standard states tail docked, but then states tail SET is more important than tail length, and a natural tail is NOT a DQ for the breed.

To bring this thread back to topic...

My favorite dane breeder of all time:

http://www.chromadane.com/

If you have several hours, take a look through her site. She's incredible, and there is a ton of great reading about genetics and more.

She's just awesome.
