So, my Ringcraft club held a dog show in a fete today. It was a good cause so we went wih our puppy.

My mother had researched the judge and found out she'd been breeding and showing two different breeds since the 70's.

We came 2nd out of 2, 2nd out of 3 and fifth out of six.

I don't have sour grapes because of this but my mum who was watching ringside, heard the judge say that a particular entry, one of the breeds she exhibits, was from her line. This entry won first four times in five classes, there were four pedigree and six novelty classes. It then went on to win Best In Show.

The steward came up to us (we are quite friendly with our club), and said she wouldn't be getting that judge again.

I forgot to mention that the judge was twenty minutes late and arrived a few minutes before they were going to have someone else judge.

The judge I think annoyed the steward too so it wasn't sour grapes.

What do you think?

EDIT; I mean its bad for the other people who just entered as they were on a day out.

Most judges are very likely to find dogs who are the same type as what they breed themselves to be the most attractive, naturally. But the judge should not have been given the names of the dogs being shown (I'm assuming this is how she knew they were closely related to her own dogs)

So I would kinda expect a judge to pick a dog that is very close to what they themselves produce, because that's their interpretation of the standard.

But how she knew these dogs were related to her own is the question.

Hi all, I think she just looked and knew it was from her line.

(Unless she had told the lab that she was judging there)

Like I say it was a fun show in conjunction with a fete, so was entry on the day.

My understanding is judge's are often biased. I've heard this a lot, and I know people often avoid certain shows, or enter them, if they know a particular judge is there.
