Mia's had BAD fleas lately so last night I tried Comfortis on her. Today she's been having a terrible case of the runs and overall just seems to feel lousy. Anyone had this problem with Comfortis before?

It's not uncommon. What type of HW does she take (if any)? Reactions are common if given at the same time or close to when ivermectin is given. Otherwise, GI upsets are listed as a common side effect.

She takes heartguard but got it quite a ways back. It's just awful runs like I don't think she's had before.

I've never had that problem. The worst problem I had was when I gave Upendi her Comfortis before her food and it ended up being a day she decided to skip eating so she ended up puking.

Hmm, interesting...I have been noticing that Oakley's bowel habit have changed...totally forgot I switched him to Comfortis!!

He is less regular now though..seems to be only going 1x/day instead of twice now (yay?!)...and its less predictable. Hasn't seemed to soften his poop though...

The Comfortis should only be producing gastric symptoms while it's in their gut. Once it's absorbed those should stop, so likely something else is going on with Oakley.

I know puking is a side effect. Did you give her a meal with it? We always feed it with a full meal and none of our crew have had issues.

We have a dog at work we give comfortis to, and one month he did vomit afterwards, even though we gave it with a full meal. We do give most of the dogs Ivermectin on the same day as the flea treatment, but I think we've switched this particular dog to a different HW preventative.... I'll have to check on that.

But yeah, did you give it with a full meal?

Vomiting is VERY common the first time you give it. Neither of my boys had any issues - but that's the biggest thing we've seen at the clinic using it. I would assume diarrhea wouldn't be uncommon - it's some sort of a bacteria (we had a rep explain it to the rest of the staff, I missed that meeting!) which is why it can sometimes cause tummy upset.

I did. And she's not vomiting just having the runs. I've heard of vomiting issues with it but not really the runs. It might just be coincidence I suppose. But I gave it to her with dinner and woke up to a huge mess she'd had while I was asleep. It's been going on up till the afternoon. Nothing since about 5 ish though.
