One of Dakota's collie friends is a tri smooth collie. He's a sweet dog, pretty docile compared to all the BCs. I've met numerous rough collies, but he's the only smooth.

we considered adopting a smooth collie from a shelter. We went to go look at him and took him outside to play and he was a really good dog, but he was a stray and hadn't finished his 3 day waiting period. So we put a hold on him for after his waiting period was up but his owners claimed him that same day we looked at him. He was really sweet and smart though.

Yeppers... Smooth Collies, Rough Collies...Bearded Collies... I had a Rough Collie (Lassie type fur).. absolutely the best dog I've ever had, hands down. Highly intelligent, loving, very well mannered, just a great dog all around. Anybody who is considering one, I would highly recommend you get it if you are wanting a dog with all of these qualities. My Kasey was the best. She wasn't too hyper, could learn anything, I had her leash trained in a matter of hours, and got her to where she'd stay with me when we walked with no leash. The dog would never leave my side.

My personal preference is for the Rough Collie, but I've met a couple of Smooths that I really liked as well. I dont' know if it's the dog itself or a difference between coat types, but I seem to run into more Smooths that are pretty keyed-up and bark quite a bit more.
