Hi guys,

I am pretty new here, I didn't really explain myself in the introducing forum. But I am in an agricultural college sudying animal care and farming. My course is split up into modules. I have been asked to produce an assignment on breeding an animal of my choice. I dont have to breed i just have to put it in a real situation. I pretty much gathered you guys on here know what your talking about, because you are all very dedicated to your dogs and pets. I am too but breeding dogs is a different thing to me, its always been breeding small animals with me!

So basically you guys are all pretty much experts and I would like to know about genetics of breeding my blue and white border collie with two blue eyes, with your average black and white border collie bitch.

If its ok I would like to ask several questions for research.
1. Would the puppies develope a blue merle colour?
2.Or would some be like the bitch and some like the dog?
3. My dogs nose is like a mixed colour, its like blue, with the white pigament in it, would any pups adopt that?

I am sure there will be more question, it is just that i have just got out bed and am really half asleep.

Thanks to everybody who takes interest in this post! It means alot. i am not expecting you to do my assignment for me though, :D hint hint, lol only jokin. If I could get pointed in the right direction, i would really appreciate it, thank you all very much indeed!

Kayla xx

Look up the Doberman color chart. That would give you the info you need IF the blue is a dilute/recessive. A recessive bred to a dominant will only produce dominant coloring, but the pups will all carry the recessive. If the black parent carries the recessive gene, then something like 25% of the puppies will be blue, and the other 3/4 should be black. And those black pups of course will carry the blue recessive gene.

Are you confused enough yet, rofl. Of course there are also red collies too, right? Never mind!!!!!!! It is confusing enough already.
