I liken it to the question of why women like shoes so much. I like collars, but right now collars for the dog are like shoes for me. I can't afford fancy, pretty ones. I spent a decent amount of money on a solid, sturdy collar for Eve and that's that, for now.
This. And to go along with it, I don't have very many pairs of shoes and Sawyer has two collars. The one he was adopted with and the one that used to be Virgo's that Hillside gave her.

Rosey will be 15 in a little over a week... and has had maybe 4 or 5 collars in her life. The last two were in the last year :p

The other ones she only got as a gift idea (She LOVES new collars are bandanas or things)

I have a collar addiction, lol. Harleigh looks good it almost everything so its hard not to buy something - I've been refraining from getting her a new one though, which has been hard! :p

In all fairness I never buy collars. But I look at them :D

It aint that difficult to understand, it's an accessory, some people like accessorising. End of.

I love collars of all colours and varieties. When I see a fabric I like, I make a new collar. If a fabric is on sale even, I'll make new collars. Having said that, my dogs have had their rolled leather collars since they were young and usually wear those or nothing at all so I just have a collection of collars lying around. So my fixation seems to lean more towards the act of making the collar as opposed to using it.
For some reason I can understand this, a need to make something. I have made my own leash couplers and leads before.

Bamm has about 5 or 6 collars and Cricket has about 7 now. My husband thinks I'm batsh!t crazy for wanting more. Eventually I'd like each dog to own a Paco for sure. I'm a sucker for cute fabric collars especially ones suited to their personalities. I also drool over nicely crafted leather collars. I keep explaining to my husband that the way he is about jeans (he owns a ton) I am about collars. He says he doesn't get it because my dogs can only wear one collar at a time. I believe he can only wear one pair of jeans at a time?

Teagan has exactly two collars, and I dont see myself buying anymore for her in the future.

She has her rolled leather one that she got right after she outgrew her rolled leather puppy collar. I really like the rolled leather, they are nice and simple and she can wear it when we are out bush wacking and hiking.

And she has her Ella's lead collar that I just LOVE I can't say enough good things about it, she wears that collar swimming, hiking and rough housing and it still looks new.

I just got bored easily looking at the same collar on my dog constantly. I don't buy many collars anymore now that I have a couple that I really love for each of them, though. My dogs don't even wear collars in the house anymore, and so there isn't much point in buying new collars for them constantly, so I don't. They used to wear collars 24/7 though, and that's when I used to buy new ones pretty regularly.

I likes the shinies too.

The Stillwater nylon ones have a purpose: Toughness!
Each has an orange on black for "I am not a wolf!" purposes and then Lily has a purple on yellow and Scout a pink on black because everyone thinks she's a boy.

I had two EL collars made for Lily, she wears her "For Ella" constantly. Only think I would go back and change would be to get no suede and to get the D ring on the end instead (if even possible!) because I much prefer that placement of the D ring.

The custom EL collar I had made for her was recently rehomed along with a custom ribbon CM collar, to a friend of mine whose cute little Rottie mix needs some doggie bling. :D

I had a custom Gertrude's Son (its basically their working dog collar with that pattern on it in black leather and brass hardware) made for Scout. It is exquisite and beyond tough. The attention to detail is so perfect. And she is a very fluffy dog who is really hard on equipment. It will last forever, I probably won't need to buy another fancy one for her. Even the roller buckle is beautiful, it is seriously a piece of art.

Field collars for running because I do not want the good ones to have muck rolled in them and they are reflective...those two are a must. Having dress collars for high profile public dogs comes in handy tho. I like Victor and Pepper the way they look in Ella's Lead collars and am proud that they have them. Don't know why you wouldn't enjoy that too. I don't really go for the tags because it's hard enough to keep mine from losing tags in the first place and I tried those clips. Victor had a St. Francis tag that was giving to him at a blessing we lost that with one of those clips, lost his pets for life tag too so no more, just give me the thick triple ring that I know works.

I always just go for plain collars too, and don't bother replacing them until they don't fit properly anymore, or if they get damaged. I can see the fun behind holiday collars, but it's just not something I'd spend money on at this point.

We don't buy fancy collars either. Nikki, since she's more or less solid black, has a reflective collar that really makes her pop out at night, but it's not ornate or anything.

I like the *idea* of fancy collars, but when it comes right down to actually spending the money I can't quite do it. Sally has a Weaver leather collar and Jack has a "don't shoot me" orange waterproof collar and I think that's all they need at this point. If I am going to spend that amount of money I would rather it be on something that they will get something out of too, and they both couldn't care less about what their collars look like. If I want to give them a little extra pizzazz when we go out in public I have a rather large collection of bandanas.

I do get the appeal though.

I'm not into collars at all and I was thinking the exact thing you are lol. Maybe because my dogs rarely have collars on except when we go out somewhere. Darla only has a few collars, which she also never wears because she's a booger and I am always afraid of her trying to get through or under something and getting caught...

Anyway I always like to have decent collars nothing angers me more than the cheap ones that don't last long at all anyway so they aren't even worth a penny. Dogs NEED tough collars lol, they're dogs! I have never ordered an extremely expensive one from the internet...the collars I use I get at sportsman shows.

The dogs just don't wear collars often enough for me to warrant spending that much money on building a collection. They only wear collars for walks, car rides, well pretty much anytime we leave our property. However, I do like having something nice to put on them when we'll be in public. Bear is a big black dog, a lot of people find him to be intimidating. Having him wear a collar with sock monkeys or rainbow rhinestones makes him seem more approachable.

So I don't have a huge assortment of collars, but Bear has one fabric CM collar and one Paco collar. Pig has only had cheap rolled leather and nylon collars from pet stores so far. I do plan on picking a CM and Paco or EL collar for her once I'm sure she's finished growing.

Yeah, the thing I find funny is Harleigh has quite a few collars... but she only wears them when we go out of the house. Inside the house she is always nekkid :D

Same here :p

I WISH I didn't have a collar obsession... but, it's what I like :) I don't do shoes, or clothes, and I really don't have the room to collect anything else (dust collecters). It's slowed WAAAY down now that I'm into the nice leather collars ;)
And when I get too many, I sell or donate my fabric collars to local rescues or shelters. And they always need them!

I <3 collars. If I had even a moderate amount of money to live on I would get him at least one collar a month.

One of the reasons why I am going to attempt to start making my own.
Frodo is also always nekkid in the house and on harnesses when out, he just wears the collars for show :p
