Hey guys!

Looks like Sam needs another collar. All the ones he has are rubbing a bald spot in his neck/breaking his ruff/both. So I need suggestions.

It looks like the ones that are over 3/4 inches wide or thick material break his ruff and make it go all over, so I'm guessing it would need to be as thin as possible. Problem is, most collars that are that size just feel really flimsy.

Then there's the bald spot on his neck. It's right about where the buckle of the collar usually hits. All his collars are properly fitted (two fingers fit snugly side by side). It happens on his teeny tiny rolled leather collar too, so I don't think it's the size of the hardware. He's constantly breaking plastic buckles though, so I don't really trust them.

Right now he's ben going collarless in the house and in a harness on walks, but he's awkwardly built so harnesses never fit him right and he could easily get out of it if he had the mind to. I'd rather he weren't collarless too, just because I like having tags on him just in case.

So, is there any collar that fits this criteria? I currently have a 1" fabric one from Collarmania, a 1" leather from Ella's Lead, a 1" 'seatbelt collar', a 3/4" nylon one, and a 1/2" rolled leather one. Plus a normal nylon harness. If that's any help.

Thanks!

If you are interested in harnesses, have you tried a buddy belt?

I'm really happy with my Ella's collars :)

I was going to suggest the Buddy Belt, too. :) They are pricey but every one seems to love them and think they are totally worth it.

I do love Jackson's Ella's Lead collar. Have you checked etsy, where a seller could personally make a collar to his specifications? Or CollarMania?

I've heard of Buddy Belts, but haven't found a place locally where I could try one on him.

I really, really love his Ella's Lead, but 1" thick is just too big on him so he doesn't wear it much. I really want to order him a thinner one once I get the money, because I just don't think the quality can be beat for the price. I'm just worried that the same thing will happen on his throat again :/

@Jacksonsmom-I was just thinking collarmania, I haven't checked Etsy in a while so I'll check that out too!

What about a buckle-less slip on collar? I believe collarmania still makes them. There is no buckle, just the slidey things to make a collar bigger/smaller, then at least there would be no hardware to rub his neck.

Ooh Grab, are you talking about the smoothie collars? I really like the look of those haha. Looks like they'd be a pretty good fit. I'm also liking the idea of a no-buckle from Collarmania.

The rolled leather one gives him trouble? I was thinking that might be the way to go if his fur is getting messed up.

It sounds like he's having issues more with the buckles than the collars. In that case, like Grab suggested, I'd try a buckless collar that just has an adjuster on it.

What is the measurement of his neck? I know Paco carries smaller collars for cats that are between 3/8" to 1/2" and are thinner leather, if you're looking for something smaller.

I remember you saying your Ella's Lead collar is relatively new... maybe Becca would let you send it back to have it made into a smaller width?

I does sound like it could be the buckles, though. Collar Mania sells buckleless collars... not sure if she still has her sale going on, but that could be an incentive for getting a new collar :p

ETA: Puppia harnesses are my favorite. Have you checked into those?

The rolled leather doesn't actually cause problems with his ruff, just the spot on his neck. His neck measures between 11" and 12", but I don't like that I couldn't walk him on a cat collar.

I'm also wondering if it could be the nickel on the buckle that he just doesn't tolerate? Like, I'm wondering if brass would have that effect too.

I really like this collar from Ella's Lead
Ella's Lead - Little Gem
I'm just worried that I'm going to spend that money and it's not going to make any difference.

The cat collars can be made without the safety release.

Oh, duh haha! I'll look more into those then!
Hi! If you think that your dog has a nickel sensitivity, anyone of our collars can be made in brass.

I might have missed it, but is there a reason you'd want a safety feature on your dog's collar?

Also, if your dog is a rough and tumble kind of dog, I'd go with one of our latigo collars. They're far easier to clean and latigo leather is meant to taken a beating (well, high quality latigo leather like ours). :D
