Cocking leg???

Hi all,
I was just wondering when is the right age for a male dog to start cocking his leg?
Coz Lucky is nearly 6 months old and he still pees like a girl!
He did it a couple of days ago but the lost his balance and hasnt done it since!!
Does anyone know why?
Shall i do or help him?

He'll do it sooner or later, just let him figure it out. Having Milo around to show him how will be all the encouragement he needs.

Milo's probably already teasing him about peeing like a girl!

My Newfie peed like a girl until recently. He's about a year old and I haven't caught him squatting in about a month.

When he was six months he always squatted. He'd try lifting his leg occassionally but not very successfully. It was pretty funny.

Brady turned a year old in October. He just started doing it in December. He had always squated like a girl dog, and recently on our walks he started using fire hydrants, mailboxes, and such. But in our back yard he still squats. He only hikes his leg on our walks, but he just started doing that.

Well Max is 26 months old and still doesn't lift his leg. Other Anatolian breeders have told me their males may do it 1 out of 10 times if that.

Hammie is now 13 months old, and he squats. I wish he'd lift his leg, cause sometimes he pees on the back of his front legs.. eeeewwwww. How lazy can ya be??

You're right Renee. Max is just Max. CJ (my female terrier mix) actually lifts her legs sometimes to pee on top of where Max just went. CJ always has to do this. I'm amazed she doesn't get sprayed because she sometimes puts her nose right under Max when he's peeing. What a laugh!

After vic was neutered he squatted like a girl for a long time. I noticed at the dog park he lifted his leg everytime. Now he is about 7 out of 10 times...for lifting his leg. Taking him to spots where he has hiked regularly helps to keep him doing that for i don't want a uriney foot either. I have to take him out on a leash so I do have some say about where he goes.

Huh I don't know. I had a Chinook named Topic he was a silly dog who died of cancer at the age of 6 I miss him with all my heart but thats not the point. Topic pee'd like a girl his whole like and would only lift his leg when "marking his territory". I don't know why he did this he was a doof. Hopefully your dog grows out of it but if not don't feel alone.

The second dog then goes up and starts to
go exactly where the other dog did. But

and relieved himself.

One guy says to the other, "Wow, how did
you teach him to pee like that?"

The second man replies, "I didn't teach him.
He's done it ever since the wall fell on him."

lol Max used to pee like a girl until he was about a year old or so, and even throughout his life he would pee like a girl ever now and then. I remember taking him for walks and it seemed like every few feet he would mark his territory. He would walk, mark territory, walk a little more, mark territory, repeat about 20 times. What is really funny is this lady down the street had this big bush she loved, and Max marked his territory so many times on that bush, that I think it killed it lol.
