Hi all...this is my first post here, thanks for your patience with my question...

I live in Alaska and we don't have a ton of options for dog grooming here. My wife and i just want a basic clip job on our dogs. Nothing fancy, just enough to keep the hair of the stinky fish guts that we are so frequently walking through in our back yard (let me just add that the fish are spawning in the creek and that we don't just have alot of guts in our yard) LOL

Our dog as very small, about 14 pounds. I have tried using the clippers I use on my sons hair (I hope this isn't heresy here...LOL) but they just don't have the mustard.

I want to get a basic clipper set, but there are SO MANY options. What brand is a good reliable brand? I don't need a cordless set, and I don't need a bunch of fancy parts in a kit I just wont use. I want a good strong clipper set that is reliable. I assume I will have to pay for what I get as well....

Thanks for the quick reply...

thats the only name I recognized when looking on ebay.

I used the search function above and found that clippers apparently refers to NAIL clippers. What do you call the hair clippers, sheers?

Just going to see if I post pictures the same here...

you want animal clippers made by either oster or andis....do not get the "pet clippers"..they are basically the same as the human ones...get the professional clippers. One speed is enough for your needs. They come with a #10 blade...that is like the size that groomers use to shave poodles faces clean...so if you dont want your entire dog that short (no hair) then I recommend a 7 or 5 blade (blades range from super short like a #30,close to surgical length, to a #4 or #3 which leaves about a third to a half inch of coat...the higher the number on the blade the shorter the hair cut). Blades come in skip tooth or fine...get the fine toothed blades.(ei: #4F )....there is little chance of nicking your dog then.
Good luck. remember to feel the blades as you are grooming the dogs...the blades get hot with use and you can burn your dogs' skin...so stop and let the blades cool for a few minutes or buy a blade cooling spray...
