my vet will not give me information on how to care for my dogs after their spays (if you really want to know why, read this. i suggest not bothering). so i've been reading articles online, many of them say to clean the incision as much as 3x a day. Some suggest betadine or peroxide. I can't find anything in the forum about cleaning the incision at all.

So should i be cleaning them, and if so how often and what should i use?

I am really sorry for what you guys have been through.

I personally don't clean the incision unless it looks like it needs it. Then I suppose I would use betadine. Dekka had an emerg c section that was also a spay. I didn't clean it even with the puppies.

I've never had to clean a spay incision.

I do check it daily to be sure it's healing properly.

i guess i'll just keep an eye on it then. i don't think they would appreciate the cleaning much and after the first time it would probably take some wrestling to get it done. i'm scared they're gonna rip eachother's open with these cones on their heads. they're like little bulldozers with these things on.

I never cleaned Bodhi's. It looked a little sore to me at one point, but the vet said it was just fine when we had a check up. It never caused any problems.

I've never cleaned a spay incision.

I can only imagine that if I would have fussed with them, that would just make the dogs want to fuss with them too.

I never have, either. But I did put neosporin on one, under the advice of the vet, because it was looking pink and poofy... But that's all I did, it was fine ;)
