I own both Central Asian and Caucasian and have been around many Caucasians and NO they do not need to be muzzled when walking. That is just the lack of training and socialization or macho image that needs to be upheld. I dont know much protection that can be offered from them when they are muzzled...

My Zero has been in crowded elevator in NYC and not muzzled and you cant get more urban than NYC. He was agitated by a professional decoy that has titled in different fields. The evaluator said that he is reactive and high in defense and if maturity keeps being good to him, you might have a hell of a dog on your hands come another year.

My caucasian Chara will be evaluated next and I have no doubt that she would deliver the good when called upon but she is quite stable and correct in temp and yet she isnt muzzled either. I live in pretty much in the city and they are not uncontrolled vicious beasts.

In regards to true LGD's where and how are your two CO's working or attempting...

I dont know what happened (this thread was at the top of the page) but I love CO and CAO (and other similar breeds, and I agree with you. No dog should have to be muzzled in a neutral safe environment regardless of breed. Its how you train and socialize your dog. If you have stable un-nervy dogs then they should know when it is appropriate to express agressive behavior.

BTW, your dogs (or should I say bears, lol) are beautiful. I know you feel safe.

I have nothing to add to this thread except WHAT AWESOME DOGS! I have always been intrigued by them after I saw the first one on the net.
Now.. after doing some homework and knowing I am NO dog trainer in any sense of the word I knew this was not a breed for me, so I got yorkies ;) and I have my old german shepherd who is a big baby.

i know right, most people with big dogs cant grasp a handle on the little ones and most people with little ones wouldnt be able to handle a big bear like your beauties.

I must say they are ABSOLULTY gorgeous! i love them, id never head of them untill reacently but realize upon seeing pictures of them i realize i have seen them before. I am absolutly facinated by all LGD's but dont have the land to offer these gorgeous dog the lifestyle they are bred for.
Fabulous, i agree, any well bred dog with sound training even one with the obviously strong protection instincts as those above shouldnt have to be muzzled. if they are correctly trained (and a dog like that should never have a lasp in training) they shouldnt need it, because their masters word is THE word.

Stunning dogs!

I have never ever seen one of these dogs in real life before and don't know a thing about them, but I think they are just BEAUTIFUL! They look more like bears to me :) .

Looks like a bear! I dont know a thing about this breed, forgive my question. What kind of training are you doing with the dogs? Looking at the pictures it looks like you purposely get the dogs to react in an aggressive way? lol, if something that big came walking towards me showing his teeth he wouldnt have to warn me twice! What kind of training are you doing?
Again, I dont know a thing about this breed, just curious.

They are actually very stable... and it is a temp test to ensure they will protect when a threat should arise... they are very stable great animals... not a breed for everyone but for the ones that are willing to own such magnificient animals then they are wonderful. Infact some people love them so much they own countless amounts of them...

Beautiful dogs. I wouldnt think you'd have to worry if they would protect their family. A dog like that come around a corner showing its teeth, only a fool would stick around to see what would happen! The pictures are wonderful, they look like they really love the kids.
