I could use some advice. :)

There is a dog on Craigslist that has been driving me crazy. Poor baby is left outside (and it's really cold right now) and has an eye infection that looks very painful. I'm sure it's not the worst Craigslist has seen, but it almost makes me cry every time I look at the pictures.

Anyway, I want to take and rehome her. I talked with the owners/managers of Bailey's daycare and they are willing to house her (they have about 4 other fosters right now). I would get the dog, take her to the vet -- get her vaccinated (I'm assuming she's not vaccinated or at least not current on vaccines) and spayed (she's not spayed) and get this nasty eye infection cleared up. I would also be willing to pay for food (I'm not sure if they daycare will want that, but I offered), and would make sure she got walks and some overnight stays so she's ready to go to a new home.

Soooo, I e-mailed the girls who posted the ad. They, incidentally, have another CL ad to "rehome" a lizard or something and say they are willing to trade for another "exotic," be it a reptile, bird, whatever. I e-mailed them last night about the "chocolate lab listed on Craigslist" and one of the girls responded with "which one, I have 2." I wrote back again and tried to talk them down from the $75 rehome fee. One of the girls wrote back and said she wouldn't budge because she "has too much time and money" in said dog.

I do have the $75, it just pi$$es me off that these girls are trying to make money off of a sick outside dog. (And I'm guessing that the $75 "adoption" fee is going to be a small part of what I'll end up putting into the dog to get her healthy and ready for a new home.)

Thoughts? I'm so torn. These pictures of the dog make me cry. So this would still be a rescue, right? Even if it seems like I'm rewarding these you-know-whats?

If would probably be inclined to to the same thing. The dog needs to be taken out of that home and given a second chance.

I'd get the address, sneak on by and see the dogs condition in person. Photograph the dog and photograph whether or not the dog has water and food. I'd then call animal control and set a time to meet them their. When they take possession of the dog let them know that you want to have it.

The $275 that they want for the dog having medical issues is to much and if they are fined for abuse it will cost them more. People like that need to have their animals taken away. Also if animal control gets involved then they should be able to also check and see how the pets are doing inside the house. If they're not taking care of the dog outside they are more than likely not taking care of the pets inside.

I agree about animal control...which will probably bar these people from acquiring more animals.

However, I do think 75$ is very small price to pay, and I imagine the owners HAVE at some point put in that much money towards the dog.

People like that really irk me. I could understand if you were actually going to keep him as a pet, but you aren't. You'd be rescuing him from these idiots. You didn't see me telling the rescue/foster parent that took Fudge, "Okay, that will be $100 for the time and money I spent caring for him."

Idiots... geesh
