Now, I am thinking about getting one of these. I'm not sure, though because I don't know if it'll fit the size ball that Ella plays with.

Anyway, which version should I get? The original Chuckit, Ultra Chuckit, or...one of the various copy-cat chuckits?

Has anyone tried a rip-off chuckit before?

I Always see them at the dog park koda loves joining in and playing when the owner chucks the ball so ive thought about them to. they look pretty durable and ive seen more than just tennis balls in them.

I won a chuck it at the Rottweiler specailty, and honestly, Im not impressed. Its sitting in my closet as we speak. Its much more of a hassel to load the ball, ect than it is just to throw the ball for the dog lol

I've used them. Never for my own dogs seeing as my guys don't have any ball drive. At the dog park I tend to take over for owners who aren't too thrilled about their ball crazed dogs. I love them. The ball goes much farther. Tires the dogs out quicker.

However if you have a baseball bat kicking around the house those work even better.

Leo chases balls if I throw them, but won't bring them back (how the heck do you teach a dog to fetch, anyway?). So throwing it farther would just mean I have farther to go to get the ball after he's chased it, picked it up, played with it, and dropped it way out there.

lol you are ever to right you have no idea how many dogs get destracted mid run drop the ball go play. then another dog at the park snatches the ball and it turns into a big game of cat and mouse its hilarious.

I love that part of the game. I'm always out there running with the dogs. I'm a big nerd that way though. They look to be having so much fun I have to get in on the action.

I absolutely love the Chuckit - it only really fits tennis balls though. Ilsa is such a big fan of the Chuckit, that she'll go for the STICK even if there's no ball in it.... observe:

Whoa! The balls sold by Chuckit are rubber?????

I might have to REALLY consider this.

Are they a nice rubber that is somewhat pliable or are they made of rock hard rubber (I'm talking rubber even harder than the black kongs) that will seriously take out body parts if someone is hit by one?
I have a ball like that that I just got for Ella from Jefferspet. I refuse to use it because it'll break bones (I'm serious) if someone gets hit by it. I swear it weighs at least a pound, if not more.

What is the diameter of the balls that you can use in a chuckit?
I got Ella a Planet Dog pink "fetch" ball that she is OBSESSED with and it's 3 1/4" diameter. Are normal tennis balls as big as that or smaller?

The rubber ones are about the same "soft/hardness" and size as a tennis ball. I like them especially because they dont absorb water, i.e., morning dew.

I love the chuck-it, and if you have any kind of upper body strength, you can REALLY hurl that ball. 10 good throws with the chuckit takes the edge off Eve's need to run.

The rubber balls they sell for the chuck-it are great, soft and very durable for fetching, though I doubt they'd hold up to Eve's teeth if she played with them like her orbee toys.

Planet dog makes "tennis ball" toys out of orbee material - Eve has three of them. They fit the chuck-it poorly, though.

I love my chuckit! It tires Dance out way quicker than when I throw her ball by hand as it goes much further (and she runs harder to catch up). I love the rubber chuckit balls too, for the same reasons mentioned above.

I have to say that I too am in love with the Chuckit. I could never tire Ozzy out within thirty minutes like the Chuckit can. And when Apollo is involved and they have to compete for the ball? Forget it. They start flagging after fifteen minutes at MOST. Ozzy can go long than Apollo, but if they are together they only want to run for about ten minutes or so.

Chuckits are AMAZING!

I have 2 - a short one, and a long one. The long one throws it a bit further, but I can throw the ball at least 100 feet with either.

Gonzo's Orbee balls fit in them perfectly, as do his glow in the dark balls.
