Poor Chip !! Some how he injured the very tip of his tail and I didn't notice it until he managed , with a bloody trail, to paint lovely red stripes on the refrig, hall, 'puter room, kitchen white walls. I don't know how it happened, as goldens don't yelp unless they're killed! I cleaned him up and did the peroxide bit, then washed the walls...... but when supper time came and the tail again went into it's virtual motion... it started to bleed again. Doesn't bother him a bit !! Usually it's a tail caught in the door, or outside.... but we haven't been out today. How do you tell a happy dog not to wag a tail !!

just read this in a pointer magazine you take a plastic tube or anything about the right size tube wise, slip it over the tail tip leaving a little of the plastic or cardboard above the tail..comb the hair up over the edge of the tube at the base not at the tip of the tail and tape it down the hair onto the tube to help hold it in place and then tape that firmly to the tail. That way it cannot reopen the wound..i thought that was slick as all get out when i read it..i will see if ican find the magazine so i can quote it correctly.

Thanks !!! Right now all's well since it's not paper time, mail time , cookie time etc. I feel all will heal at bed tonight. If not, I'll do the tube bit !! Really, he was quite an artist !!!

i bet it was pretty...about the hydrogen peroxide, I was informed by an emergency vet tech that peroxide actually inhibits the clotting factor and shouldn't be used to clean wounds. News to me...soap/water and the tube should do it.

poor Chip!! sometimes the smallest boo can be such a bleeder......and the 'trail' can look pretty awful. once Addie had the tiniest little cut on her paw which she didn't seem to notice........but the cream colored carpeting sure did!!

and yeah....who could stop that tail when he's such a happy fellow???!!!!!!

Was awakened by his morning tail banging on the wall next to my bed this morning and there was no blood on the wallpaper !! Guess that's the end of the tail tale !!

Neosporin is fine as far as I know. I use it quite often at work for the daycare bumps and boo-boos that happen.

I keep on hand Sulfodene 3-way ointment. It prevents infection and provides pain relief, also has germ and insect barrier. I use it for hot spots, minor injuries...etc. Really works well for me. Problem is in finding it. I have to order it in from Pet Supplies Plus, then pick it up. Or you can order on-line.

So sorry to hear about Chip being hurt-y. Although the artistic design of your house sounds unique....(insert giggle here).
