Hey guys. Messina was chewing on a raw bone (lamb) and chipped her tooth in half. At first, she had a bit of discomfort when I touched it..it seemed like part of the root or who knows what was visible to the outside. After a few days it turned brownish and she didn't mind me touching it anymore..she had no problems drinking or eating from the first day...and she still chews. I called the vet and he told me not to even bother coming in if there's no discomfort shown by the dog. She says it happens often and just like in people, it numbs up and the the dog just lives with a chipped tooth, no biggie.

So, I didn't go to the vet. I continued to brush her teeth and now I bought this spray called Leba III. Its supposed to balance the enzymes in the mouth and clean the teeth naturally, brushing free. I'm using it now. Have any of you ever tried this product?

Anyways, do you think I should have gone to see another vet? Messina is perfectly fine now...there doesn't seem to be any infections cuz there's no bad breath..dog is eating and drinking like nothing happened..happy..etc...

any suggestions, comments, warnings?
should I keep giving her bones in the future?

My GSD has chipped 2 of her teeth. I took her to the vet because she wouldn't chew on her raw hides so I knew something was wrong. Well our normal vet wasn't in so we had to see someone else and of course she was afraid of GSD so she had me open Shelby's mouth, etc. Saw the chipped tooth (which I think they were both chipped at that time but since she didn't do the exam it was me opening her mouth so she could see from a far distance she missed the 2nd tooth).

Anyway, she told me to soften her food for a couple of days then bring her back to dry food. If she still had a hard time eating then we should consider pulling her tooth (and it's both of the big teeth on each side that's chipped). She did fine and since she didn't have any problems eating they said we didn't need to pull it.

You can't even tell now unless you're really looking. I'm sure your dog is just fine.

I think she's ok too..the only thing that bothers me is that the area where the chip happened has turned a little brownish..almost like its got plaque on it...is that normal? Again, she doesn't seem to be experiencing any discomfort. I just worry about her so much.

If your dog is eating, drinking and acting fine, it probably is okay. Just keep an eye on the dog, and if something changes take her to the vet.

I asked on another forum. I was told it was overpriced and contained listerine ingredients and shouldn't clean tartery teeth. Other than that no one has given me an opinion.
