so im currently looking for another small baby, i have my 2 chis and will be moving out soon leaving my parents chi puppy here with them...ive found having 3 dogs much easier on them because one can nap while the other 2 play, it seems they purposley schedual themselves in shifts lol.
so im definatly looking to get another small playmate...i do love my chihuahuas, but ive been fascinated by the crested (hairless) i think there absolutly gorgeous and the only oe ive ever met in person (a 7lb black and white male hairless) made me sooo happy to see him he reminded me of a tiny little horse.
but i didnt get to spend much time with the cutiepie...

id love to hear from crested owners about these little guys personalities.

with the chis im used to an independant almost terrier like personality, 300lb monsters in 3 and 5lb bodies lol.

id also like to know about skin/hair care for them, trainabl-ility ect.
i realy want a social little one, because im opening my own boutique for dogs and my 2 chis and my 3rd will of course be comming in everyday with me too.

opinions, experiences ect would be GREAT...thanks guys...
im currently debating between a 3rd chi or a crested...

We actually researched Cresteds before deciding on a Shih-Tzu, and they seem really awesome! Not much I can recite back to you, but I can wish you good luck with your new addition!!! I did read that they're fairly easy to train though. Let us know what you decide on!!! :)

Personally, I don't really like the look, but I think I heard that they are little social butterfly's :D.

this is suki a chinese crested i photographed for someone, she is very sweet and has a bit more hair now as the ammount of hair varies.
Good luck and make sure you really do know exactly what you are getting as they are not all hairless.

That is so exciting Foxy!!! :p I love those little "devils", they are so energetic and playful. They are extremely outgoing dogs and always fun to have around. I never had one myself, but many of my dog show friends have them, so i get to spend quite a lot of time with them. They are all very friendly and never have problems with other dogs..... never seen one being aggressive or shy either.
The only problem is that they are very difficult to house break. Most of my friend's dogs were NOT housebroken till they were around a year old or more. All their other dogs were fine, but CC seem to have a problem with it.... don't know why really. The other thing is their skin. There is sooooo much work with grooming. There's shaving and the spots and all of that would probably be a bit too much for me. But I know you're an experienced and dedicated dog owner, so you probably won't mind that :) ..... all the best!!!

Oddly enough, most of the CC's I see around here are the powderpuff variety. Quite cute. Those two are pretty skittish though; not sure if it's a breed thing or just lack of socialization.

One thing about CC's I've noticed...they don't age well...most of those "World's Ugliest Dog" contestants are CC's... :)

i know, they look like little gremlins as they age they tend to lose their teeth early (especially the hairless) and they get wrinkly like little old humans....
the crested that wont th eugliest dog was ancient though and had a hard life. the one i met was 13 and looked like the pictures of show dogs, except he was almost toothless and his little tounge stuck out alot lol but she did alot of "cosmetic" work with him, lots of shea butter and massage to keep his skin supple (alot aparently dry out and get flakey skin because people dont keep up with the skincare)

i think the older cresteds are so ugly only a mother could love them...and im VERY good at that lol.
im still looking into it though, itll be probbaly spirng of the new year beofre id get another dog...but its an option.

i had suki with me from about 10 weeks till about 4 months of age and she was house broken within a week with maybe 1 or 2 accidents but i can honestly say she was very easy and i have kept alot of dogs.
i agree about the skin thing but its not such a problem with ones that have some hair.

I think they are so adorable. Zoe had one in one of her training classes. He was very social and very smart. I don't think they are too difficult to train, I know he caught on in class very quickly and could do lots of tricks.

I do know that he had some acne, and had to have some special baths or something for that. you definitely have to keep up with the skin care. But he was such a character.

The one I know is easily spooked too. She's not a very confident dog but then again her owner only ever takes her out to go pee. Then it's back inside.

I was just watching the Cresteds at the Toy Specialty show today. One had a fleece body suit on before going in the ring LOL! I really don't know much about them. I do know that their skin requires lotion and they really can get chilled easily so they do need clothing at times. Oh, and when I worked at the vet clinic, one bit me LOL!;)

I was just going to say they have wonderful temperaments, before reading your post Showpug. Lol. I like them. I've found them to be very nice dogs, prefer powderpuff variety.

Here's all I know about Chinese Cresteds:

-They can live up to 15 years
-They can weigh up to 12 pounds
-They are appropriate "hypo-allergenic" dogs
-They're not as sensitive to the cold as people think.
-Shy w/ strangers

Health:
-Bite abnormailities
-Skin allergies
-sunburn
