It's an ok food. Sadly it has taken a downgrade with a recent reformulation though.

There are many better quality foods available.

It's a decent food. There's better, there's worse. I think Canidae offers the best for your money. Perhaps look into that? There's also Timberworf, Innova EVO, and raw that you could check out. :)

Riot is on Fromm Duck and Potato and thrives off of it. His coat is beautiful and his condition is great.

He has tried the canned version of that and he got loose bowls from it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the same company that produces Diamond make Chicken Soup? I am one of the people that lost a dog during the Diamond contamination incident. I won't feed or recommend anything that is made by that company again.

Yes, Chicken Soup is a Diamond product.

Sorry to hear you lost a dog to the aflatoxin contamination. :(

I wouldn't dismiss all products made by Diamond that easily though, since they don't only manufacture their own products, but also do contract manufacturing, for example for Solid Gold and Natural Balance, among others.

Yes it is, but Chicken Soup was not affected.

Then why does the information on the Natural Balance web site state that the plant where the NB foods are made also produces food for human consumption? Seems if Diamond was making NB food, that they would be claiming that also.....Anyway, I just sent NB an email to verify who is making their foods.

It also looks like Diamond has some ongoing issues with their products. Not only that, they didn't help the person pay any of the vet bills for their sick animals after eating the junk that Diamond makes...

I think you are referring to their new line of "Edibles" canned food. This has nothing to do with the dry food or their other products though.

Edit note:

By the way, I was not able to confirm whether the case you linked to had anything to do with Diamond food. I investigated it when I first heard about it and while I'm definitely sympathetic and generally on the side of the dog owners, I do not believe Diamond food was at fault here. If it had been, the occurrence wouldn't have been limited to dogs of one single household.

I contacted Natural Balance and here is the answer that I received from the Customer Service Department.

Please know that the Natural Balance Dry Formulas are co-packed at a Diamond facility in California. This means that Natural Balance uses their machinery to manufacture our OWN formulas. Also, please know that Natural Balance provides our OWN quality control, to insure the highest quality of our formulas. If you have any further questions please feel free to contact me via e-mail or phone. Have a great day.

I think using their machinery is not quite the same as Diamond producing their product and Natural Balance using their own QC, makes a big difference as far as I am concerned.

I'm aware of that. :) It's one aspect of the specific research I do for my site.

Whether the term "using their machinery" or "contract manufacturing" is used is just semantics though, it amounts to the same thing. Which is exactly why I said I wouldn't dismiss all products made by Diamond that easily though, since there's a lot of hysteria out there after Diamond's recall incident, to the point where people are even wary of contract manufactured brands, just because they were made on Diamond equipment.
