Here if your dog is unaltered its $45 for a lisence and if they are its only $15.

HUGE difference - not so far to us who have show dogs b/c they CANT be altered for shows.. but whatever.

It makes sense for the idiots who feel the need to NOT fix mutts...

To license a dog in Calgary, it's $30.00 whether they're altered or not I think. Each of mine are spayed/neutered and that's what I pay...not completely sure if it's higher if they're intact, but I think it's the same. If the shelter ever picks the dog up, I think it's cheaper to get it out if he/she is altered.

The difference in the fees in different areas of New York State (or anywhere) is that local counties can have ordinances that impose additional fees to the state ones. I actually have a kennel license so I'm not even sure what the individual fees are here. When I worked in the shelters it was like $5 for s/n and $10 for intact I believe.

here it's like $6 for speutered and $8 for intact, which is pathetic. i wish they'd really kick up the price to license intact dogs. i also wish they'd actually enforce licensing.
In here licensing your dogs is mandatory. You could be fined if you don't do it. Every vet is supposed to check for the license before treating it. (At least I know my vet does 'coz I've been asked every time I brought M&M in to see him)

The different in prices ($70/unaltered, $19/altered) is a wonderful way to encourage people to alter their dogs. i've known quite a few people who do not know nor care a thing about doggie overpopulation but still altered their dogs just so they can save the $ :)). It works!!

Someone above posted about Calgary's fee for altered animals, $31, and that's for puppies too (although I'm not sure what a "puppy" is defined as). When I was searching for the rates for unaltered animals I read something that said that Calgary has the highest license fees in Canada, but that over 90% of dogs in the city are licensed and 87% of dogs taken in by Animal Services last year were returned to their owners. I don't know who's releasing the data for that, but if that's the case, it's definitely worth it! For an unaltered dog it's $52, so $21 more.

Where I am in NY it was $2.50 for spayed/neutered but I have learned the next renewal it goes up to $5.00 which isn't bad. I've never checked to see what it is for unfixed furpals because I've never had one.:)
