Why do you like Chazhound?

I am new here and am amazed at how busy this forum is, and how many members Chazhound has. I also recognize many people that I used to know on other forums, who are now here.

So it made me wonder, since this site is so busy, and so many people have left other forums to be here, what is it about Chazhound that you all like so much?

I'll go first, so far I like the fact there are such varied levels of knowledge here, some really experts, people in the middle, and some people really new to dog ownership. So it gives us plenty to talk about.

Because it's family...

because in any dark hour a large group of people pull together to stand up for a cause to support one another...

because there is no place like it- no other dog forum matches the hearts that frequent this forum...

because we all have something in common- dogs and a great love for them...

because (err, for the most part :p) we are all willing to learn new things for the sake of our furries...

because it's so diverse- you've got a joe schmoe from nearly every walk of life...

because.. why not? what's not to love? ;)

ditto times two. :)

I rave about Chaz to my trainer almost every time I see her, either because of something good that I learned, or something I learned to never do.

Plus I've made friends on here that have spilled over into real life, face to face friendships and that's worth it's weight in platinum gold.

I enjoy Chazhound because I prefer the company of people who have a passion and respect for dogs. :)

I am always wanting to learn and hear about others experiences with their dogs as it help with my training and care of my dogs.

I first loved Chaz because of all the knowledgeable people. I loved that even though I wasn't quite a genius that there were others still less knowledgeable than me that I could try to help try and explain things to. I loved that it was so busy and never was boring like some other forums.

And now, now that I've been here for so long, I love it because its like family. People know me, for the most part. Most everyone here on Chaz cares..

Some people see it as "just" internet. And it is. But it isn't. It IS a community of people that care... and though you may not see these people in real life... the internet still has made it possible to communicate with so many different people.

All of the above plus the feeling of being quite free to express ourselves I think. No one is punished or pm'd, banned unless there is something extremely rude or nasty. I think Chazzhound is much more tolerant than a lot of forums and yet will prevent an excessive degree of hurt feelings and insults. There's a good balance there. Members here tend to moderate each other and by doing so (up to a point) it strengthens friendships and promotes a better understanding of eachother. When people can hash out their difficulties without too much interference, they tend to grow and understand eachother better. It's just like dog behavior. If you supress it by stern punishment, they shut down. If you offer alternatives and make sure there's a payoff for that, people grow and participate more, making the forum very active and fun.

I love this forum because:
-If I had not known about Chaz, I would still be feeding Charlie Purina.
-If I had not known about Chaz, Charlie would still be an outside dog.
-People here taught me about training, dog food, etc.
-People here have given me encouragement/support on issues in my personal life

I just feel like part of a big family here. :) It's really different. Usually in other forums, I just think of it as the internet. Here, it's a family.

I think the mods make a big impact on the forum. I'm not a chronic troublemaker on the boards but I do love that when anyone has an unconventional opinion, and they state if politely, they are listened to rather than silenced through force.

Chazhound itself IS "just the internet", but the friendships I've made here are so much more than that. That's the main difference. The people I talk to here are real, genuine friends to me and it doesn't matter if my only contact with them has been over the internet and on the phone. They're still friends, and have done more for me in the past 2 years than my "real", face-to-face friends have. My only gripe with Chazhound is that we're all spread out instead of living near each other, and I will never be able to meet some of the friends that are so dear to my heart.

I've been a member of a lot of forums, and some are indifferent to other members - there purely for resource reasons. Some are one giant flamewar. Some are cliquey and childish. Chazhound is the only one I've been on that is like an actual family. Yes there are a couple longstanding feuds, yes there are fights, but there's also a lot of love and respect here.

I left another forum for Chazhound because of that - only a few people were treated with respect. Others were shat on. There were far too many people on the other forum acting like they were greater than God, while everyone else was puny and worthless. For those who think certain Chaz members are on "high horses" at times, I would have loved to invite them to the other forum I was a member of.

I didn't come to Chaz expecting to get sucked in and form bonds with the people here, but I did and now there is no getting rid of me. :D
