So I've noticed that lately I'm tending to lean more towards "simpler" coat colors in dogs (I.E. solid dogs, tri's, bi colors, etc) where as before I was all about brindles, merles, harlequins, etc.

Anyone else do this?

Yep! I used to not care for red & white border collies but I think its my favorite color now. I also really like brindle now and I used to think it was silly looking lol.

I've found myself caring less and less about color lately. Other than white, sable is/was my least favorite color/pattern/whatever.

Elsie's growing on me.

I think mine have stayed the same.
I like different colors on different breeds though. I love brindle.

I don't much care for black except on a Cane Corso.

In Pits I like black & tan, chocolate & tan, any brindle (black or red nose) as favorites.

I have found myself caring a lot less.. before I had a list of colors I loved and it was like my first worry other than gender dog wise

Now it's very very low on the list lol
I used to veer towards darker colors (tris, black/white) but recently merles and the rest have all wiggled their way into my heart lol now I just don't care

What is the saying, no good dog is a bad color?

Mine are mostly the same. I like merles (but am kind of picky about them), and I like bi and tri colours. Sable and brindle have grown on me, though. I never used to care for them that much for some reason but now I think they're very pretty. And I used to prefer minimally marked Tollers with little or no white especially on the face, but now I prefer facial markings. And four white feet.

And I still have a huge preference for dogs in shades of red or brown for the most part, and probably always will. Especially if they have pimgent/noses that match their coat (liver Dals, red Dobes, liver Flat Coats, Tollers, Vizslas, red bi, tri or merle Aussies/Koolies/Border Collies, etc.).

Mostly the only colour scheme or what have you that doesn't grab and hold my attention is a solid coloured dog usually. I tend to prefer flashier dogs/something with markings. But there are some breeds I like that are solid in colour (Flat-Coats, Belgian Groenendaels, Chessies).

That said, when looking for a dog, colour is not my top priority. I would try to seek out a breeding/litter that would give me my preference in colour, but if that doesn't happen, then I don't really care just as long as the temperament is a good match.

Yeah also, in boxers at least, I used to prefer minimal white markings. Probably just because that's how Molly was marked. But Juno has grown on me and I like the white blaze and collar. If her markings were on a "real" brindle coat lol I'd be very happy.

I don't like flash, I haven't actually ever very much. I don't like brindle very often, nor merle, some I find beautiful but a lot of them are too busy for my taste. I like solids, sables, and of course moo cows.

I've moved from preferring blk/wht combos to brown shades, but I will *always* have at least one speckled dog, no matter what. ;) LOL

I've always liked less "busy" coats, or the "natural"-looking shaded coats like a Malinois body or Kim where they have a solid uniform color but with lighter and darker areas. And in busy coats like Merle I prefer a more uniform total-merle (like Traveler for instance). It really depends on the whole picture...dog has to look like all the parts belong to the same dog lol.

And I still don't care for most-white especially white faces. My favorite-colored BCs, for instance, are almost totally black with barely a suggestion of traditional markings. I also like clean tri's.

Conversely I do like really heavily ticked dogs. Dunno why. And symmetrical blue ACDs who are by all accounts really really "busy" with all that roaning lol.

One change is I've gone from strongly preferring golden/brown/red colors to being more open to a lot of black and truly solid colors. Gee, I wonder how that happened? lol

However, despite having rather specific, complicated and often contradictory preferences, I really don't care at all what colors/markings my next dog has. That's so far down the list of things I care about that it will probably never even come into play. And if she's an FCR there won't be much in the way of options anyway -- solid liver or solid black ;) But we'll see.

ETA: I have no trouble with people strongly preferring some colors over others or seeking out certain colors, in case it comes across that way. I just don't care is all. I am picky about coat type though... :)

Yeah I just noticed my post sounds harsher than I meant (I just woke up from a much needed nap). I don't dislike any dog based on coat and ime have never chosen a dog by color alone. Sorry if anyone read it that way.

Still like the loud color/pattern. I still want my liver girl but I won't turn down another black spotted one if she fits the bill.

I think dogs with busy coloration are fascinating to look at, but I've never owned one. I've always gravitated towards simpler looking dogs.

As far as business goes, I don't like solid colored dogs much color wise and on the other hand, also merle and brindle type coats. I've occasionally come across a merle or a brindle that I think is gorgeous but typically I like the sable/black/tri versions of the breed more aesthetically. Both brindle and merle look too busy to me. I'm also not a huge fan of roan or spotted coats for the same reason.

I tend to prefer dogs with some white markings, particularly the typical collie pattern (irish spotting) that BCs and shelties have. Particolor is borderline for me... I don't like it as much as irish spotting, but I like it more than dogs without white on them. I have an all particolor breed so obviously I can deal with it but it's not my favorite coat color, lol.

I also love fawn with a black mask. Dark mahogany sables as well. Not a big fan of clear sables but that said of the dogs I've personally owned, both Nikki and Summer were light/clear sables. LOVE widow's peak markings and tricolor markings.

I also highly prefer black pigment.

I don't pick based on color obviously, but I find myself drawn to breeds with at least some of the markings I enjoy. The biggest draw factor for me is there needs to be some variety of color or individuality in markings.

Oh and I agree with Laur, I'm also attracted to breeds with variety and individual markings/colors

Not really, I love all colors of dogs really. Especially black! I may be a tad biased. ;) Since Rocky (RIP) was black and Dixie is black! As far as breeds go.. I love black and black & white APBTs. Buckskin is also a nice color I am fond of. Black & tan has been a favorite of mine also. :) But I like all colors of them, really. :)

I love hounds that are white with red tick markings..again may be a tad biased! Also, ones that have unique shapes! Buster has a camel and fish shape on his side. We had one hound pup at the shelter, Ladybug that had a heart shape on her forehead. It was kinda ironic since she came around Valentines day a few years ago. :) I am really fond of red/white ACDs also.

I also love black & tan dogs in any breed! :)

It would be nice to own a dog that wasn't mostly white lol.

I don't have much in the way of colour preferences. I like b/w JRTs but don't own any. I like solid coloured whippets... don't have any of those either lol. I am not a fan of brindle but wouldnt' turn away a dog I liked (non JRT as its a disqualification in JRTs) that was stripey.

I do miss my speckled Kat.

I always browse for light colored dogs when I'm looking at my local shelter website (*cough*eventhoughishouldnt*cough*), but then go OMG WANT over the darker colored dogs. :p Dunno if that is the same thing, but that's how I roll, apparently.
