Didn't the guy that got killed take care of the dogs? I wonder if the dogs could have been having a scuffle, and he got caught in the middle trying to break it up or something. They should be able to tell more from an autopsy at least.

Seems that another "news source" (Fox) reported that the caretaker had an apparent heart attack and that none of the bites were life threatening.

Who knows?

It's very out of character for a decently bred Fila to maliciously bite someone that is "family." Family is everything to these dogs.

The story I head on the news was that their was 3 bull mastiffs and an english bulldog that they confiscated from the property to examine for forensic evidence. Rhames is out of the country and all of the neighbors were schocked when they were questioned since there was never any problem with the dogs before. They also menioned that the victim had bite wounds to his arms, legs, and abdomen. It would be pretty difficult for a man to be mauled to death and not have any of the neighbors notice I would think. I'm supprized that the news mentions every bully breed except the pitbull, you'd think it would just be easier for them to just say pitbull type dogs killed a man.

I read about 3 comments and one said:
Reports say the poor man only had marks on his arms and legs - maybe the dogs, whom he feed and cared for 2 years, were trying to move him - maybe they should be looking for someone who went to the hospital with dog bites ... maybe they were protecting him in some way - dogs go for the throat when attacking, or the stomach, read end
Maybe theres something behind that?

This story was ridiculus first I heard bull mastiffs and and english bulldog than I heard it was 4 filas. Now I'm hearing he actually has 8 filas but they only took 4 and I just don't know what to believe. They really need to get their stories straight before they start reporting stuff. Maybe do a little investigating first!

I can not believe that any Fila of half decent breeding could hurt its family.
I have however seen my female bite and pull by its legs one of our dogs that was killed in a road accident. A tragic accident which saw my house keeper leave the gate open for 30 seconds and my little street dog ran out and got hit.
I brought the body inside and lay it down for the guys to see so maybe they would understand. First they barked at the body then they pawed at it and licked it then they nipped it on the legs before finally trying to pull it to their kennel. Maybe this is what happened and the guy was not mauled but showed some light puncture wounds. Media being what it is.........

Tragic either way.

Having owned Filas in the past, this article struck home as the type of person that DOES NOT need to own this breed, no matter how much money they have.
I don't know whether Ving in guilty or innocent of any misdeeds when it comes to owning, training and caring for his dogs (although he did hire somebody to care for them).
But making statements like that based on something read in Us magazine isn't exactly fare. Even reputable(as far as that term goes anyways) news sources can't get there stories straight. Basing your opinion on a magzine who's next article is all about who wore what at the red carpet and which celebrity got fat doesn't seem like the best information source.
