It sounds like a lot of fun, I'd love to find a trainer who would work with me and Dakota. The only training club here is quite biased towards GSDs, Dobes and Rottweilers and tends to shun people with other breeds. They actually suggested that I go out and get a GSD before even visiting them! Lol.

ACD's are awsome dogs, I'm biased towards GSD's myself, but never underestimate an ACD. I know of people that train them in those sports, but nobody that we train with does, sorry.

Hello

She's doing good for a young pup. You can tell her breed has bully dog in them, she uses her weight alot of the time when she hits. Must be a Cattle Dog thing.)
I'm training her with me as the decoy, I hope this doesn't complicate things before we get to a club training event. Right now this is what the training consists of ... she knows 2 Sigma Pseudo scents Cocaine and Marijuana impressingly well for a pup.
Because I'm the decoy getting her to listen to commands from afar was confusing her so I use a wistle with different pitches.
This is how we train... she Bleib'in on a marker while I go set myself up, this took forever to teach her because she always wants to be at my heels. I used the E-Collar to remedy this.
I have her set up to do 2 rounds back and forth and the third round is the hit (if scents are present) I want her to focus on scents right now .. so this is my theory. we'll get into the fun stuff a little later after she grows some more.
First round she's on the marker about 100 yards away and wistled to Voraus then Pass auf and return to the marker. This took forever to get right because once she's with me she doesn't want to leave. Again the E-Collar did the trick. Now I need to go get a stash and return to my "spot" while she's patiently waiting. I don't do this all the time.. if I did she'd remember and not listen or just do it out of repetition.
Second she's on the marker and wistled to Voraus and Such
Rauschgift... usually she knows before she gets to me and does the Gib Laut or tailwag right away. Tailwag is for Marijuana and Bark is for Cocaine. Then she returns to her marker.
Third she's to hit straight out. We just started this last week with the third round... she looks hopeful.
Any suggestions would be appreciated on what I've posted here.
Although I do believe once we get to a club with a real decoy .. she'll become more of a hard dog.

I'm not sure which route I'm taking with her just yet, so I'm giving her a taste of it all. Scent is my main focus.

if you're being the decoy, there shouldn't be any pressure from you on the dog, just fun. Leave the real pressure for someone else. It will only confuse your dog, and the last thing you want your dog to do is feel it needs to use its defense against you as the decoy. How old is your pup? SOunds like things are fun with that little guy. Good luck.

I do schutzhund with my 18 month old male ACD who is 65 lbs of muscle. He excells at the sport and the trainers are very impressed with this breed. I also can attest to the bully strengh in this breed my Caiza is built like a tank and hits hard. They do have "bull terrier" in there make-up. Your girl is very pretty, Caiza says "hi" to her! LOL!

I am a little confused about what you are training your dog for - FR doesn't have scents in it, much less marijuana or cocaine. SchH does have tracking, but again its human scent, not drug detection.

What decoy work or training do you have? I wouldn't be the decoy for my own dog, besides which I have no desire to take a hit from a 90 lb doberman, I feel like that just creates a little conflict. What do you mean by you are the decoy? I guess I am just confused about what FR training she is actually doing. Do you have a club nearby? Lucky - I don't have a MR or FR club nearby and I would love to take my guy out.

Hello doberkim, sorry to confuse you with my post on Sara. Sara will be 6 months old on Jan 14. What I post here it's my own opinion on a basic puppy till 1 year old. No need to bash. When you train a dog from puppyhood there are certain stages in a young pup that need focused on before others, this includes enviroments. The best age group in my opinion for scent is between 6 weeks and 4 months. For anything serious to become of your dog in a year. And it fits right in for a healthy year of pre-competition training too. Mind you the pup needs to know the basic commands... to start anything serious in K-9sports.

I thought I did mention in my post if I'm not mistaken that ... I'm not sure which route I'm taking with her just yet, so I'm giving her a taste of it all. Scent is my main focus.

As far as your comment about ...."FR doesn't have scents in it, much less marijuana or cocaine. SchH does have tracking, but again its human scent, not drug detection." ... when Sara is able to compete she'll be ready for any ring ... again it's my goal. I plan to travel out of the country with her when she's age able... so, I need to do the best I can to get us there. Sorry to make you mad.

I'm my own decoy, plain and simple. And it's fun with my own puppy. If you don't know what I'm talking about please don't insult me.

The closest club to me is 1170 miles south. We do have many "other" clubs with in 200-800 miles that when of "age" we can visit ... my goal is the big time.

...you posted this .. "besides which I have no desire to take a hit from a 90 lb doberman, I feel like that just creates a little conflict" ..and that's your opinion. People do it you know. Personally, I think you should take a hit from the Malinois, if you care to know what I think about it.

Although I do believe once we get to a club with a real decoy .. she'll become more of a hard dog.

Show up for me.

Very cute. Just be careful, she's young. Let her enjoy puppyhood and nothing to hard for now.

ACD's are tough dogs. I would NEVER underestimate one.

Good luck :).

What do you care if you make anyone mad? You certainly didn't make me mad - but your post made no sense, and it was misleading to others who may not be familiar with SchH, MR, FR, PP, PSA, ASR, etc. The fact remains is that scent detection, SAR, etc has little to do with bite sports.

I'm my own decoy, plain and simple. And it's fun with my own puppy. If you don't know what I'm talking about please don't insult me.
Oh, so because we don't know you, we cannot comment? The fact remains, is that unless you are a trained decoy, there is no way in hell I would let anyone catch my dog. Much less try to catch my own dog - and yes, I do think that creates conflict, as well as prevents you from being the observer of what your dog does. Training your dog to take bites (be it targeting the sleeve, the leg, or any body shot) on your own without the help of someone experienced can ruin a dog if done incorrectly - many people see what happens when a dog is ruined by poor training. My question to you is, what experience do you have in training a dog in ANY bite sport, much less doing it yourself with no club experience? My dobe jumps up and bites my arm when exciting, it doesn't mean I am training him in PSA.

The closest club to me is 1170 miles south. We do have many "other" clubs with in 200-800 miles that when of "age" we can visit ... my goal is the big time.
When of age? At 6 months, I'd have my pup at the field every day. In fact, when I brought my male out at 16 months, many commented it was TOO LATE.

...you posted this .. "besides which I have no desire to take a hit from a 90 lb doberman, I feel like that just creates a little conflict" ..and that's your opinion. People do it you know. Personally, I think you should take a hit from the Malinois, if you care to know what I think about it.
Um, I think you are still misunderstanding. Malinois or Doberman, I have no desire to take a bite from *MY OWN DOG*, at least not when training. With a young pup, I see no reason to create any conflict or insecurity, much less encourage them to go at the handler. HOw do you do defence of handler? You do face attacks, fleeing attacks with your own dog? Does FR have escorts? If so, how do you train your dog to escort the decoy if you ARE the decoy?
