Tsuki is really little, and when training it takes her FOREVER to chew the big dog's treats. So I've been using little Whisker Lickin's cat treats. Now I know that for dogs eating too much cat food is uber bad... is it the same for cat treats?

They're soft, and just the perfect size for her.

I have been worried about that to.But that is what I use.I did find some moist an meaty. By Purina that is like strings of hamburger. For Dogs
an it is real beef. soft an it works good so far.

Mere I don't see the problem in feeding cat treats. I see a problem in using poor quality cat treats to train with as that would generally entail more than most cats would get in a day.

All 4 flavours of those treats start out with
Animal liver flavor, wheat flour, corn gluten meal, water, chicken by-product meal, wheat gluten, animal fat preserved with mixed-tocopherols
Yuck.

I dont think there are any *healthy* cat treats. At least not at Petsmart. Hopefully soon we can move up to Charlie Bears or something...

Hey there is the option of using good cat kibble as treats. most dogs go crazy for it.

But here are some healthier (and likely tastier as there is more meat) options from petsmart.

Animal Snackers All-Natural Cat Treats - Treats - Cat - PetSmart

Fish Sticks All Natural Cat Treats - Treats - Cat - PetSmart

Snack 21 All-Natural Treats for Cats - Treats - Cat - PetSmart VERY VERY high value.

Tuna Flakes Cat Treats - Treats - Cat - PetSmart

Dingo Kitty&#153 Beef Fillets Cat Treats - Treats - Cat - PetSmart

Look for "itty bitty's" (YES thats what they are called).... i am pretty sure I have seen them at PetSmart.

I use them as treats for the dogs sometimes... (and I have 5 pound dogs!!!)
They are teeny tiny... they are dog treats... they come in lots of flavors.

My dogs have had those, PM, and love them. But they are larger than the zukes. And if you are using them to train you want the smallest and softest ones possible. As a random cookie they are great!

Ahh, ok... I have never seen zukes.. my piglets can swallow anything in seconds, so I never have an issue with them , :p

Ok cool! Thanks! I will look for those tonight!
I like these Whisker Lickins are they just got soft instantly and I can make them smaller. It takes a few moments to chew anything (unlike the hoover schnauzer) LOL

Yeah, I just use soft dog treats and cut them up. Like the Authority Liver Treats from Petsmart (they're cheap, we use them a lot), I cut them in six pieces for the big dogs, or 12 for the little dogs. That's pretty tiny!

Remember with such a small dog if you use them for training they are going to make up a large percentage of her diet. Make sure the ingredients are ones you want to be going into your dogs diet in large quantities.

You could also make home made liver treats and make them very very small.

why not a piece of organic granola bar?

i agree with making the treat small so your puppy doesn't upchuck!

I would think an granola bar would be even harder to chew than what has been previously mentioned. AND might not be enough of a 'reward' for a carnivore.

Didn't read thru every post so I'm not sure what's been suggested, but I use Whiska Lickin's for Gage, and Deli-Cat treats too. I use them for Emmy as well, because she has an extremely tiny mouth and it's hard for her to chew bigger or hard treats when training. I also cut up a Canine Carry-Out treat into tiny little pieces, and use that as well for training with her and Gage. I find them soft, and easy to chew.
