I just quit feeding my cat EVO (2 days ago actually) for the reason you mentioned, and because he was gaining ALOT of weight on it (despite small, recommended proportions). I switched him to Chicken Soup Adult and I can say that his poos are SIGNIFICANTLY less smelly! lol I guess the high concentrated protein content is the culprit? He's not as thrilled about the taste as he was with EVO, but he's a pig so I know he won't go hungry :) Hope this helps

After being on Innova EVO for about 6 months, my cat started scratching at her face and making scabs... As good of a food as it is, I'm having to switch her to something else (and having to feed crappy prescription IVD stuff for the next month). >-.-<

I was thinking of trying

California Natural Chicken & Rice
Chicken
Chicken Meal
Ground Brown Rice
Chicken Fat
Sunflower Oil
Flaxseed
Natural Flavors
Taurine
Vitamins/Minerals

OR

California Natural Herring & Sweet Potato
Herring
Barley
Oatmeal/Rolled Oats
Herring Meal
Sweet Potatoes
Sunflower Oil
Herring Oil
Natural Flavors
Taurine
DL-Methionine
Choline Chloride
Vitamins/Minerals

Both made by the same company that makes Innova Evo, I'm just wondering since they have been eating EVO for awhile if this would be a BIG downgrade in food since its not a high protien no grain diet like EVO?

I would try the California Natural if the EVO isn't working out for you ;)
The ingredients are good, and as long as you attempt to switch slowly they should be fine.
My cat also did not do well on the EVO. He's on Eagle Pack now, and is doing well.

Its wierd, all the cats have better coats and shed alot less since they have been on EVO, but its just the smell when they go to the litter box that is worrying me. One cat even has teh runs sometimes.

Assuming you have discussed this with your vet and there are no underlying parasites or physical reasons for the cat's digestive and stool issues, I recommend you change your cat's diet. I also recommend Eagle Pack. In several decades of fostering many cats as well as multiple cat ownership I have seen nothing but good results on this food. Your cat's poo should not smell that bad and cats with the runs and no notable physical reasons generally need a change in diet as a first solution idea. While you see good results on your current cat diet, your cat's digestive system seems to be differing with you.:)

I definitely do not recommend purina. I am not sure what they carry in your pet supply places in Australia, but most of the supermarket food is not very good. I am assuming you have checked out your pet supply stores and can't find Eagle Pack. Felidae is also a good food for cats. It's made by the Canidae people. Also, Natural Balance makes some good cat foods as well. You need to help me out by letting me know what premium foods (not supermarket) are available there so I can help you pick.

Well in the pet shops you mostly see Eukaneba, Hills, Advance and Iams. I have seen Innova and California Natural. I have only seen them in dog food though not cat.

Oh boy. I wouldn't feed Eukanuba or Science Diet or Iams. I am not really familiar with California Natural. I will take a look at its ingredients and get back to you. Since Purina is there in Australia, you might consider Pro Plan. It's not the top of the heap but if I were given the choice among the foods you named and nothing else, I would probably use it. I wonder what the concientious cat owners on this board who live in Australia feed. If you are reading, please post.

Update: Ok, I just looked up the ingredients in California Natural Chicken and Rice. Not bad food. You might want to go with it, although I might supplement the cat with something like Felovite. Oh, and please don't switch foods cold turkey,it can upset your cat's system. Do it gradually but adding some of the new food to the old food and increase it daily over a period of a week or so. Ok?

I give all of mine the regular Innova cat food and they've all done well on it. They eat both the dry and canned.

Hope all works out for your kitty whatever you pick. If your cat free feeds Innova dry please watch out for weight gain. Science Diet can do this too, but of course, there is no comparison nutritionally between the two. Innova is a great food but I have seen cats get fat on it, including a former cat of my own, and not all cats do well on it in terms of digestion, as we can see in this thread. But those who do well on it do VERY well, so Innova fans don't beat me up. I'm sure your cats are doing great or you wouldn't keep feeding it. It's just that I've fed so many cats in my life I generally steer people toward foods that have the least incidence of digestive problems. However, I know nothing of the California Natural, so going with Innova may really be the choice. Cats like to eat a "mouseful" at a time, so free feeding of dry is often helpful so they can eat several "mousefuls" throughout the day, so you will have to control how much she/he gets. Please include both dry and some canned in your cat's diet. Cats aren't great drinkers so the canned food helps. Good luck to you.

Speaking of California Natural, I read the ingredients and the link I had simply said "vitamins and minerals" on the ingredient list. If anybody here does feed that food, I would be interested in knowing if the bag actually has a list of "which" vitamins and minerals and their sources.

Update: I found the info at Naturapet. Boy this looks like really good food. I may try some.
