China has become the world’s leading fur exporter. In China there are no laws protecting animals killed for fur. An investigation showed how every year in China millions of cats and dogs are living in cruel conditions, are tormented and then skinned alive, strangled or stabbed solely for the money that can be gained from their furs and skins.

To help out they have made it really easy for you to sign the online petition and they have also made x2 instant letters that you can just print off and sign and post.

Lets get this awful trade banned :(

What exactly does a bunch of people signing an online petition do? There is no weight behind it. Besides, we can't even get China to treat human beings decently, much less dogs and cats. I agree that it's terrible, and you are a kind and caring person to want to do something about it. The best way to help would be to not support the companies affiliated with them, and write them letters saying why. If enough people do that they won't be making enough profit to keep going.

Sad to say, but there probably won't be a stop to it any time soon.

There won't be a stop to it any time ever if people don't even try to do anything.

I don't agree that a 'bunch of people signing an online petition' does nothing. Plus there were two letters to be sent to the EU Commissioner and UK Minister. This kind of action brings it to the attention of someone who might be able to make a difference. One letter might not make them sit up and take note but thousands of letters might.

I do of course agree that people also need to stop buying these products, which was another point mentioned in my article. But again, you need to spread the word in order to get people to realise what goods to look out for so that everyone can stop buying (and selling) such items. If you don't realise the cruelty that went into making these things then you might still buy them. Unless we all share this kind of information and write our letters then people do not get to hear about what is happening and nothing will ever change.

I agree about lobbying the sellers of such items... but also don't forget that many of the sellers do not realise exactly what it is they are selling. The fur used is described as faux fur or is mis-labelled in other ways. Until anyone can be sure what they are buying, this trade will not end. We could all have an item in our cupboards that is actually cat or dog fur and not even realise that's what it is. The laws with regards the labelling of the furs need to be tightened. This is an issue for governments and law makers, not just the shops and manufacturers.

I know that is a simplified version of how the world works but it is the best we have to go on.
