carrots are fine, just keep in mind that they contain quite a bit of sugar - a pound of baby carrots contains about 22 grams (a little over 3/4 of an ounce) for example.

however, since the digestive tract of dogs can't break down plant cell walls, it's not really a concern if you feed the carrots whole and raw - the dog will not digest much of them that way.

if you want to include them as a part of the diet, you need to either grind the raw carrots finely (e.g. in a blender or food processor) or steam them and then mash them up a bit with a fork.

any fruits or veggies added raw and in large chunks just bulk up the portion size of meals but don't contribute much nutrition.

We feed our dogs a home cooked diet. With different nutrients... We cook chopped up carrots and veggies and let them settle. We usually cook it with a chunk of meat or so that the flavour of meat sinks in to the veggies. Then we mix a bit of rice in and some oats. We mix some minced chicken in too. So all in all, it tastes good and is healthy :)

Toby loves carrots. He also like tomatoes. Anyone know if tomatoes are ok?
My GSD eats lots of carrots and tomatoes. He helps himself out of the greenhouse since my friend gave him one. My friends dog is on the BARF diet and gives her dog tomatoes as part of her food so they must be OK :)

Tomatoes are wonderful; cooked even better.

Mine jockey for postion to get the trims and the stem end when I'm prepping tomatoes for a salad or sandwich, lol!

Oh no the competition has started. We don't eat carrots here but when I rattle that bag then the dog and the rabbit start paying attention. Which one to give it too. Rabbit wins most of the time since Yuck is acting like a twit.
