Anyone ever have carpal tunnel syndrome? When you go to the docs do they just put a brace thing on your hand to keep your wrist from moving? Oh and if you don't deal with it right away what's the worst that can happen?

I had surgery on mine, left wrist - I grew a lump (cyst)
and had to have it removed
the cyst grew legs that tangled around my nerves and cut the circulation off
that was 8 years ago, no problems since

Did it make you elbow hurt sometimes?

And do you remember about how much it cost for the surgery?

I know I have carpal tunnel syndrome, but have not seen a doctor about it.

New repetitive motions kill me. Painful, usually at night.

While I was pregnant it was worse with swelling in my hands, and limited movement.

Sometimes my hands go numb usually on my right hand, sometimes I wake up just to move my arm to get circulation going in my hand.

I wore a brace during pregnancy, when it was worse. It helped alot.

But mine is really terrible with repetitive motions that cause a shock to the arm/hand. Like hammering, rakeing, etc.

My wife had carpal tunnel syndrome in both hands years ago. The symptoms you describe are classic. The only treatment is surgery but make very certain you get a neurosurgeon to do it.

My Sister suffered from Carpel Tunnel, grooming dogs for over 20 years 6 days a week and being a stylist, not a sheep sheerer...:) . She suffered this from repetitive brushing especially for show grooms and keeping dogs in long coat, large double coated breeds etc.

She avoided the surgery by wearing a brace at night. Eating healthy...she completely changed her eating habits for life. She was eating pretty badly for awhile, eating fast foods, coffee, quick meals like lean cuisines and frozen dinners, pizza etc. Now, she eats a good healthy breakfast of organic cereals, flax, organic soy milk with her Salmon oil capsule, evening primrose oil, flax oil, astragalus

She also takes Glucosamine/chondroitin/MSM/magnese/bromelian/calcium etc with yucca or alfalfa, turmeric, ginger, feverfew or another antiinflammatory herb. She eats nuts and seeds (pumpkin, sunflower, walnuts etc unsalted, raw and organic) for snacks along with organic fruits and veggies. She cut out red meat and eats only organic chicken, salmon, fresh sardines, haddock and other fish. She gets a healthy variety with fresh organic foods in season...or frozen. She drinks tofu smoothies etc.

She started seeing a homeopathic doctor and takes tissue salts and a few other homeopathic remedies.

That was 5 years ago or more, she avoided surgery, still is grooming 6 days a week 10 hour days. She is doing great, the inflammation went down and the carpel tunnel went away. She was really focused on diet and exercise to combat this and she feels great, looks great...she even cut out sugar and cut back on coffee and replaced with green tea.

She still sees the homeopathic Doctor, takes her tissue salts along with the other herbs etc. A few friends had the surgery and did not make any lifestyle/eating changes and had the carpel tunnel come back again. It's amazing how well our body can heal when you feed it right;)

I have carpel tunnel but not as bad as before.
I was a secretary all my life and had to quit because of the pain.
I have a book you might want to get:

Repetitive Strain Injury by Emil Pascarelli, MD & Deborah Quilter

Here's a link to the book on Amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0471595330/002-0147496-6781634?v=glance&n=283155

When my pain was so bad, I got this book and made an appointment with Dr. Pascarelli in New York City. I was living on Long Island at the time. I wound up going to NYC and got evaluated by him. He had me going for physical therapy 3 times a week and on a plan of stretching/strengthening exercises.

It has been over 10 years now, and I haven't gone for the surgery. I've heard good and bad. I went to so many types of doctors before I found Dr. Pascarelli, and he was my miracle person.

I started carpal tunnel when I was working in a factory going to school. It got to the point that driving for more than 10 minutes made my arm hurt, then go numb. Once I started driving the German cars driving stopped bothering me . . . go figure . . . maybe I could get a doc to write me a prescription for a new BMW every three or four years, lol!

Now, seriously, it's been found (and even some of the medical profession has had to admit to it) that yoga is one of the few things that actually DOES help carpal tunnel - far better than the standard physical therapies and better than most surgeries.

My Mom was an industrial nurse for years and saw lots of carpal tunnel come through her office. She said that well over half of the people who had surgery were worse off after the surgery than before  Alternative treatments do seem to be a better choice most of the time, and if they don't work perfectly, at least they haven't made things worse!

Information on this thread is great. To sum them all up...surgery is almost inevitable. My sister in law had both done at once so she could get it over. She is my hero. But...she is pain free and doesn't have to worry about it popping up again. I have reverse carpal. The nerves in my hands and wrists came up as a big lump in the palm of my hand. It's gross. It comes from continuous use of the mouse with the wheel. Started out as tendonitis and grew and grew. Now I have to have surgery. This is modern technology and some of the symptoms...tendonitis, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel...

Hope you feel better soon. Get a good doctor and hope for the best. Ask around to friends and family for a reputable one.

Good luck. Let us know what happens
