See, that's what I was wondering. If the American Amish know about Canada. Obviously the Canadian Amish do, duh! :)

I'm more familiar with Hutterites as my parents are German-speaking and my dad had some Hutterite friends. Amazing how a little German will get you a free Hutterite-made saskatoonberry pie at the farmer's market, LOL!

As for the Americans giving others Americans a bad name - well, really, they just don't know. Maybe they should, and maybe they should be trying to learn, but they honestly don't know.

Funny story, some friends were driving from Canada to Texas, and since it was winter in Canada they still had the electrical cord from their block heater hanging out their hood. They were stopped by a state trooper/officer who asked them if their car was one of those electric ones, LOL!
I've found people that don't know a lot about anything everywhere, S. AMerica, Europe, Canada, and the US so that shouldn't suprise anyone.

And we have cars with block heaters hanging out every winter and some still stay out in summer too, and I live in the US.

Sure, but we've been discussing the differences between Canada and the USA, and the knowledge disparity is one large difference I can see.

And I'm sure you do have block heaters in some states, LOL, just maybe not in Texas where they were stopped!:)

Well I imagine they know about each other since they immigrated to the different states and to ontario. It's not like they aren't educated.

I wasn't saying they aren't educated. Just because some of them emmigrated to Ontario doesn't mean the one's that are here know anything about Canada. Yes they are educated, but who's to say they learn about Canada?

I suppose that's possible but there are only 40,000 of them I think? I'm sure they would learn there history to make their future more solid. They probably move around a lot with the Amish communities too. Get some 'fresh' blood. lol

I couldn't imagine NOT having (or needing) fresh blood after a while. There are only so many people you can hook up with before you end up in bred (like some back woods West Virginans and moutaineers of Tennessee, lol). :)

*no offense inteded for those WV or TN who are not inbred*

Oh yes, that's an issue within Hutterite communities, too. Even in the 1940's I know some young German Canadian men were "propositioned" by Hutterite elders with the intent of adding some new, distinct bloodlines and lessen the risk of genetic disease. My dad was one of the young men "propositioned", LOL;)

Happens here, too, especially on First Nations reservations. There is one reserve in Ontario that has an extremely rare genetic blood disease that causes death in early infancy, and it appears to be because of lack of "fresh blood" over generations. I

Montreal is fabulous! Make sure to visit Old Montreal, maybe take a horse-drawn carriage tour - and leave time to shop, LOL! The shopping is great! It's probably one of my favourite Canadian cities!

In Canada it varies from province to province.

I'm so excited! (aside from the work part of course)
We plan on jet boating, dinner at Atitude 737 and Restaurant au Grain de sel. How are these places?

We are staying at the Delta Montreal. I'll also be visiting the Palais Des Congres.

Can someone point me to some good, inexpensive shopping that's within walking distance of the Delta?
