hi i have been calling around to try find a good deal on meats for feeding raw for my dog. i found one that sells 4 ducks 3.4kilos each for 9.35 pounds which is good.

problem is they are frozen. i need to defrost them. chop them up and then freeze it again.

is this safe to do???

Every time a meat is refrozen, it looses more of its nutrients. But other than that I wouldn't refreeze it more than 1 or 2 times.

Don't let it thaw on the counter or so, then it gets unsafe very quickly! Let it thaw in the fridge.

I know nothing about it at all except I was always told by my mum that you never refreeze meat. She is also no bacteriaologist so that's probably something she heard from her mum. Interesting that the general consensus seems to be that it is okay. I'd like to ask if refreezing meat for humans would also be okay, then - except maybe pork and chicken which are always dodgy?

I wouldn't refreeze it if I were going to eat it. It looses too much of the moisture when it thaws. For the dogs, I do it all the time and have never had any bad results from it.

Are the ducks all in one package or are they individually packaged but sold as 4 ducks? If that's the case just thaw one and feed it till it's gone, it will only last a couple days with your dog.
