There are very few trainers listed in the Paris area where we live and each one I contacted uses the choker chain, punishment methods. My puppy is now 6 months so I want to start soon but I CAN NOT FIND a trainer that uses the reward training method.

Can I train myself if armed only with books? Should I go to the training anyway and just refuse certain things like the choker (though that will not go over well I'm sure)

My pup is a real sweety and sensitive I don't need to yell or use force I just need to be more clear with him. My 5 yo jack on the hand needs some training too.

If anyone knows of a trainer in the paris area i would be thrilled to have a contact.

I am sure with the proper books and information you can do it!
Some great books are...
On The Other End Of The Leash-Patricia McConnell
The Culture Clash-Jean Donaldson
And you should stick around!
There is tons of info around the site, and lots of helpful people!
Hope to bump into you on the forum somewhere :).

If you are looking for a positive reinforcement based trainer to help you train your dog, or are looking for one who is offering classes in your area using these methods, try doing a search of the APDT (Association of Pet Dog Trainers) on the net. :)

there are plenty of people who train their own dogs, educate yourself and work hard, you can do it!
