My dog hates cameras... With a passion! He seems to think that he's either being punished or acts like he does when there is a thunderstorm (I guess from the flash).

Do your dogs hate cameras?

Do you have any ideas on how to get him to tolerate a flash when I need to use one?

My moms dog, who passed away last summer, was deathly afraid of cameras. I tried everything... she would RUN, hide, put her ears back. I have so many videos of her being in the middle of playing, looking up at me with the camera, and then just taking off, lol. Poor thing. We never did find a cure.

There was an episode of It's Me or the Dog with a dog like this actually. I'm pretty sure she just gradually built up positive associations with the camera by placing treats near it, on top of it, etc. But this did not work with my moms dog.

The only thing I can think of is a telephoto lens or a separate flash (rather than the built-in one) and lots of treats. I have an external flash that swivels, so I can bounce the flash off the ceiling/walls - the dogs/cats don't seem to mind it as much that way.
Maybe have someone sit with the dog and feed her awesome treats every time the flash goes off (starting at a distance)?

Hmm, a separate flash might work. Thanks!

Chloe was like that when we first got her, and still is to a degree (she doesn't like the camera right in her face - and occasionally will randomly run from it even from afar) but I just used it all the time on/around her, and she got used to it.
