Hey all,

I just wanted to say hi and chat with the mini schnauzer owners out there and compare our dogs. Often we think all minis/dogs of the same breed will be the same sort of, but we learned this is so not the case since getting our girl mini (8 mths old now).

Lets chat! Tell me abour your minis.

My male is 1.8 yrs and my female is 8 mths. My male is high high energy dog, who is very nippy and rough during play (with us!) and follows me around like my shadow. He loves going in the car, going places, isnt fearful of noises or things, never vomits in the car, and is a picky eater. He gets NUTS with kids (we have none yet), and we kinda dont trust him with kids cause he just wants to play with them and chase them when they move fast, and he barks a lot at them, making him seem scary to kids. He loves other dogs, and cats even. He doesnt mind going to the vet and he does well at the groomer every 6 weeks. He hates baths and he loves toys! He is full grown, very muscular, not an ounce of fat on him, weighing 14.5 lbs. We thought he was aggressive till we got our female, who is his boss for sure, taking his toys, food, etc and he lets her have it all usually but we of course stop her and take things from her so she doesnt get possessive. He is a horrible sleeper too, waking up easily.

My female is lower energy, we call her the normal dog. She naps, plays, naps, relaxes, etc. She never nips us or tries, but for some reason even though we raised them the same exact way, she is fearful of noises and certain things like garbage trucks, workers on the street, etc. She too is not so good with kids (we walk them 3 times a day in our neighborhood, they see kids everyday, always have since 3 mths old). She too barks a lot at kids and seems to go to nip them when they move fast. It kinda embarrasses me and we are trying to work on that. I dont think they mean any harm with regards to the kids, but that doesnt make it ok. So we are careful with our neighbors kids, etc. She hates the car, gets scared of it, and vomits alot everytime. She also gets a bit fearful in new places. She is a better eater than our male, but still not the greatest eater. She also does well at the groomer, but isnt so bad for us in the bath and she also loves toys. She is very sweet and gentle with us, she is very dominant and bossy with our male, stealing his things even if she has the exact same one, repeatedly over and over dropping her and taking from him. She is a good sleeper, doesnt wake so easily.

The both love peanut butter and bully sticks and get plenty of both! And they both do really well at the vet, dont mind going, dont even barely flinch when getting shots or blood tests. They are good like that! People always love them and comment on them, as they look almost like twins to people that do not know them (but we see a big difference as all moms and dads would!)

Sorry to go on and on, just love my dogs so much! I would love to hear some details about your minis!

I don't have Schnauzers now but we did have two at one time in my life. I found them to be very loyal loving dogs but they had absolutely no qualms about biting someone else who was moving a little too fast for their taste. Let's just say there were plenty of ripped pant legs wherever they went. lol. So I understand why you would think yours might not be good with kids. I think kids might just move too fast for them or something. Loved my schnauzer. He died after ingesting an entire chocolate easter egg. Back then, they didn't know too much about chocolate toxicity, but looking back in retrospect, I know that is what killed my boy. I loved that dog so much I still have his collar and tags and he died decades ago.
