This is a BYB near me....http://www.southernweims.com/index.htm

Okay my friends mom stops and looks at the puppies...not buying though *sigh*

And so we look at the pups, oh and mite I add, they are on the side of the HIGHWAY! *yikes* and the "father dog" is out with the "breeder" and has NO leash on. ugh and the he says he has been breeding for about 5 years...and this guy looks like he is EARLY 20's.

So I start asking the guy some questions about his dogs and the pups he is selling :lol-sign:.....so I ask him "Do you do any Health Test on Your Dogs?" Then he says..."Uhh well, they have never had any hip problems"

Then I ask how old the pups are and he says "6 weeks"

Ugh! I HATE PEOPLE LIKE THIS!

Oh and then we go in a pet store in the mall(not knowing what they sell) Good Gosh they sell EVERYTHING! The pug puppies did not even look right and the cockers... ugh!

End rant/vent.

Oh because at first I thought it was funny that he called himself a breeder but he really could not even answer my question about the health testing......but then it turned into a vent for me...sorry, editing that...;)

Guess you answered your own question . Anyone can advertise wonderful " kennels" and pups over the internet ......Sure , tout your kennel , but don't sell pups ! Again I state , no good breeder needs to sell over the internet. They can say when a litter may arrive .... then connect by phone or e-mail . Anyone who has available pups is nothing but a BYB.

ug, I got Shadow off of a ByB! It made me mad, to see that she was an underweight former momma! I was thinking, how on earth did she produce puppies, being unfed? (she is also A Weim) And I wonder how the guy treats the pups!

Well, 1st. Their dogs are NOT health tested

2nd. The pups leave the mom at 6 weeks

3rd. They are Not bred for any purpose

Please looks for a good, breeder that does NONE of this

Now, yes, malls get their pups from puppymills too :( And then sell them for OUT OF THERE MIND prices

Just wondering, where is AL are you?

hi again i'm in ozark al .i found this post when i searched southernweims.com from the dothan eagle add yesterday. i have noticed when i started looking for yorkies to buy that many "breeders" around me do not health test their dogs and let the pups go at 6 weeks . which is harder on small breeds and they should stay at least 10-12 weeks . when i got both my yorkies at 6 weeks their little teeth weren't hardly through their gums yet! i had to soften food for them, but they have turned out ok so far. i didn't know anything about yorkies before i bought my 1st one but learn more & more all the time! they are over standard size of 7lb ,one's 9lb ones 8lb but that's ok with me also! what really bugs me are the "breeders" that have multiple breeds or mixes-designer breeds...they just breed anything they have to make money from those poor puppys! i think weims are beautiful dogs and i may want one in the future..so i looked at that add. for some reason i still find myself looking at local dog adds i would love to have a housefull of dogs myself. but we have enough for now.

Or better yet, check out the local rescues in your area for a dog that really needs a home.

I completely agree that this guy is a BYB - all of the classic signs. It sickens me, really. But as long as there is a demand, there will be people to supply - and, unfortunately, IMO the general populas of America don't want to hear it about "reputable" breeders versus Puppy Mills and BYB's.

With that said, I do need to comment on this:
he says he has been breeding for about 5 years...and this guy looks like he is EARLY 20's.
What does age have to do with it? By the time I am 22 or 23 years old, I will have already (hopefully) bred a few litters.... that doesn't mean I'm ignorant or a BYB.

Personally, I've handled dogs in conformation for almost 14 years. I've assisted in breeding (AI), whelping, and the raising litters for the past 8 years. I health test. I carefully compare pedigrees.

Do I still have stuff to learn?! Of course! But age only denotes so much...

That is great for you, Sorry I did not mean to say that younger breeders are not as good as older breeders ;) My point was that he was 1) young and has had many litters already 2) very rude younger person 3) Did not know anything

I understand :)

I just wanted to clarify that age doesn't always denote ignorance when it comes to dog knowledge/dog breeding...
