Hi, I just got a silky terrier Sunday. I have noticed though that she will occaisionally drag her butt on the carpet. She doesn't do it often, and not for very long, but she just did it a minute ago, and I saw her do it about 2-3 days ago.

What is this? Is it something to be concerned about?

can girls have the anal gland problem? I thought not because I thought only boys would do the marking territory thing...

My dog used to do the "butt-scoot-boogie" all the time. She really had a bad problem with her anal glands clogging up, to which for the first 1.5 years the glands had to be expressed every eight weeks or so. I suspect it was due to her Alpo canned food diet. The vet had told me certain dogs are more susceptible to it than others.

EDIT - The glands are just pockets right next to the anus. They somehow just fill up and the dog needs them to be EXPRESSED by dragging their bottoms across the ground/floor. I don't think the glands are for marking territory. It is easy to release the gland, but have the vet to show you before squeezing her bottom if you are unsure how to do it.
