This is the 3rd within a few months! The SPCA is really cracking down on these supposed breeder/show people. They were taken due to unsanitary conditions. She breeds/shows Shepherds and is/was highly respected and a breeder of "champion" show dogs.

This is really shedding a light on so called responsible breeders. I think more of them will be busted in the near future. Just because a person breeds for show and shows their dogs throughout North America does not make for a "good" breeder.

Even the local puppy mills or BYB's have not been busted like these so called responsible breeders. Mind boogling. I will post the news article later when I get it.

Yes, me too. We do have a wonderful SPCA team up here.

The thing is this person is not a "bad" person. She loves her dogs, she shows throughout Canada and States and probably dumps more money into travel, show dues, etc. She is just not one of the smart breeders who knows how to make the big bucks off her dogs. The living conditions were deplorable, it's a wonder that child services doesn't take the children away. Probably people meeting her at a show and talking to her would think she is a wonderful caring person (which she is) and would never think she is keeping an unsanitary home.

Do you think that the publicity from this event will be a wake up call to others who are in similar situations? It would be good if this experience made others stop and take stock of what they were doing, and made them make different and better choices.

The fact that this person is a breeder of "show dogs" is beside the point.

Dogs should never be kept in such conditions.

Not everyone who shows or breeds dogs is pursuing that next win at all costs and at the expense of the lives of their dogs.

MOST of us show dogs to evaluate breeding stock, and breed dogs to the breed standard and to improve our breeds, and for no other reason.

And last but not least, NO ONE who keeps dogs in those conditions could be called responsible in any sense of the word, no matter what kind of "winners" they might have produced.

JMO as always....

It is sad though. You would think a notable dog person would be above the normal dog lover/owner. Thier dogs would be treated like kings and queens.

It is sad when when people that show in conformation begin to do it only for the status and popularity instead of the love of the breed. This person should have been worrying about the health of her dogs in those conditions, rather than traveling to shows to get status and popularity by means of her dogs.:(

No one is saying she is responsible now. But, she was considered responsible, knowledgable etc. before this. She also strove to...ahhh...I can't say improve the breed because the way they are breeding Shepherds is not healthy. But, she was breeding to North American standards. She was not always living in this manner. At one time she had a beautiful/clean place.

Fila, I know it is very sad. .
