My OEB is always chewing on her paws. Why would she do this?? She is treated w/ advantage every month so it's not fleas and he nails look fine, not ready to trim. She chews like something is really bothering her, just can't see what!

Could be an allergy to pollen, etc. This could also be an allergy to something in the food your feeding.

Foot chewing is very often related to food allergies. It is considered a classic symptom.

What do you feed the dog?

Hello,

I have not posted much but since I own several OEB's I thought I would give my 2 cents....

I would take her off of Beniful. I agree with Red, most food allergies show themselves with chewing. If you have only two dogs you might want to consider feeding RAW, the benifits are great. I am owned by too many dogs so RAW is not an option for me. You can also just read labels at the Pet Store - you want the least amount of corn or wheat in the food (these are the leading cause of common food allergies).

I also use Maloseb shampoo if the EB or the OEB's have an itchy episode. You can get this at your Vet or online, it works very well for all kinds of skin problems.

If I can help you in any way please feel free to e-mail.

Yes, listen to Red and Bhale!

Beniful is a *terrible* food, one of the worst out there. Read the ingredients and ask yourself, would I eat this? Don't worry, it's all a learning process so consider this the beginning of your journey ;)

There are many economical healthy options out there, like Kirkland brand from Costco.

I feed raw myself and it has helped my notoriously skin-issue-ridden pit bull come from a place of eating himself raw to healthy and shiny.

Good luck!

Yes YES!!!

Get RID of the Been-AWFUL, and the K&B, IMO, is really one of the worst ones out there. These things ( I will not call them "Food") are trash.

I would bet you change your food to something decent, such as the Kirkland mentioned, and your problems will go away.

What is RAW? Is this a type of food or does it mean raw food? We have a vet/feed and seed shop in town, so what would be the best there?

Here is some more reading for you! It is quite lengthy but it helps to understand the terms used by the pet-food industry in labeling dog/cat food. It also gives a small list of reader recommended foods.

Please remember that what works for my dogs in my enviroment, with my exercise schedule may not work for you and your dogs. We all have to go thru the same wheedling down of foods to find something that fits us, our dogs and our budget! With that said I feed Kirkland Chicken and Rice from Costco ($23 per bag).

Good luck and don't forget the Maloseb shampoo it will help relive her itching now while you try a new food. I still believe that RAW would be your best option if you are willing!!!
