In the near future I would love to own this breed. But I would like to start researching on breeders and whatnot now. I rarely see people with this breed around here, although the rare times I do, is why I absolutely LOVE this breed. They're just so spunky, goofy, and energentic. Like a mini pit bull. I would love to own a pittie or staffie, but don't consider me much of a big dog person and to be quite honest I don't think I could handle the whole pressure people have to go through with owning these so-called ''dangerous dogs''. As much as I love to educate the public I really can't stand ignorant people and don't think I could put up with them. Especially even my own family and friends. I don't think I'm the type of person that could convince people as much I would like on how these dogs aren't what the media portrays them as. So why not a dog, bully breed, but people are going to be less wary of, since they're quite popularly known as the ''target dog''. I see why anyone will think these dogs are dangerous. Unless they've seen Next Friday and think weed can make them calm dogs .

But back to the whole I would really really LOVE to own one of these. I'm not good with knowing the difference between a byb & a good reputatable breeder. So anyone know of any reputatable breeders I can find in South Florida, either in Broward or Dade County? Even West Palm Beach? I'm not looking into one too soon, maybe in the next 2 years or so, when I move out to my own place & Didi's eye sugery has been done. But I would like to gather as much information I can now, before I'm ready and get a bad case of 'wanties'' and just go ahead and buy one off a newspaper ad or something! :yikes: So far no luck even finding a south florida bull terrier breeder. I tried googling it, and they put pit bull terrier breeders. This is going to be harder than I thought! Also how does purchasing a pup from a breeder work? I've onlly either rescued or just get ''no longer wanted'' dogs, never got one from a breeder. Also what price range do one of these puppers usually go for? As for researching about the breed I've done that like a gazillion times, and the puppy pictures that comes along with the information is not helping control my urges of ''bull terrier fever''..........they're soooo cute and clownish......how can you resist?! I don't think I could fully be complete with my life without owning atleast one in my lifetime! My dogs might be my souldogs, but I really do believe this is my soulBREED. I get other breed ''wanties'' once in a while, but one I'll never lose interest in or would be more perfect for me will always be these eggshape head doggies :p .

Everytime a new members comes with a bull terrier I sooooooo post-stalk that person for pictures :D

Soon I might become the stalk-postee...I mean can you image bull terrier puppy pictures on this forum! Its just what its missing, everyone will want a bull terrier puppy fix every day or so!!

It'll just be the perfect addition to complete my pack.

I love the bullies too. I don't have one (my dream one day!) but I have one that I groom every three weeks. Star is a total sweet heart, but that head HURTS if they bang your nose! She got me once good, and I thought for sure she broke my nose. As far as I can tell, Bullies suffer from the same problems that all pits do: A) they think they are human, and you can't convince them otherwise; and B) they have NO idea how strong they are! :)

I do know that pit bulls are illegal in Dade county (Broward is ok), but I am not sure if Bull Terriers fall under the generalization of "pit bull". If you live in Dade county, you may want to double check with Animal Control.

I live in broward. I like to go places (dog parks and such) in dade though, where pit bull aren't allowed, so yeah another factor why I can't own a pittie. But the only breed ban dade county has pit bulls. At the dog park in Miami, where pits aren't allowed, I've seen (and only time I've encounter) bull terriers.

You say you dont think you could handle an APBT or AmStaff? Bull Terriers are very similar to APBTs with the amount of frive they have (if not more) and instead of only having dog-agression like the APBT Bull Terriers can have human agression too. Obvous not anything that's not manageable but just something a future owner should be aware of. They are high drive, high energy, typical stubborn bully breed. And sadly yes, they do get mistaken and often lumped into the BSL group all the time so having one wont alwaysd put you in the clear of that.

BTW, if you happen to come across a breeder that has black and tan dogs could you let me know? Thanks!

i think she meant she doesn't think she can handle all the nonsense and bullshit people will go out and say about these dogs being dangerous, and the prejuidice she would go through EVERY day with a more well-known bull terrier.

i love bull terriers.

what about a miniature bull terrier? have you considered one of those?

As far as strength goes, I think I could handle them. But even roughhousing with a 10month old pup, these dogs sure do have lots of stamina!! But I think a apbt or staffie might be just too strong for me to handle. I mean we're talking about weight-pulling dogs that can weight pull alot more than I can. Although bull terriers do weight-pull as well. But I doubt it the same amount as pits & staffies. Also what made me stear-clear away from these two breeds, although I do admire them, I don't admire people always putting these breeds down and don't think I can handle the public like the people on chaz do who own these breeds. I don't really see people putting down this breed as commonly as the bigger bully breeds like pits, staffies & american bulldogs. Just that they have real oddshape heads. But I do think some people might find them a little intimitating. But I think I could handle intimitation better than I can than having a dog that has ''lock-jaws'' and other myths that the general public thinks of when they see a pit bull or a breed that looks similar to one. Also health-wise I can see me help up a bull terrier get up places suffering from bad knees compare to a pit bull suffering from hip dysplasia that weighs 20lb+ more. But same goes as me choosing between as getting a pomeranian than an american eskie. Both spitz breeds, but I think I'm just more of a small dog owner.

The b&t's are soooooo cute. I perfer the whites though, than the brindles.

Yup, that's what I really would love, but if anything a standard size would be okay too :)

A standard is actually BIGGER than a proper APBT not smaller....They are smaller than the Bandogs some people try to pass off as pure APBT (those are usually APBT/Neo or APBT/Dogue) Proper pit ranger in size from 35-60Lbs according to the ARBA site. Bull Terriers tend to be 45-80Lbs. The minis are expected to be around 34-33Lbs

I was actually looking into the breed before I found and started researching ACD's. My vet sees three of them and they all have some health issues. Two suffer from seizures and the other has bad allergies. All three were from reputable breeders and not BYB's. I guess lots of health issues affect the breed so make sure you go to a VERY reputable breeder of them. Even going to "reputable" you just never know what the outcome will be with the individual dogs in the long run. Good luck :)

Yeah more in the range of 30 something lbs is good. But wow 80lbs!! The way I see size though is height mostly, but than again some english bulldogs weigh more than some of the taller size breeds!!

Just be careful and do your homework. I understand the miniatures have even more health problems than standard size bull terriers.

I love the look and personality though.

Thanks. Actually Didi suffers from seizures and Pepe gets hot spots from skin irritation from time to time. So those halth concerns I use to.

But other things this breed is prone to is deafness and slipped patella. Hopefully I don't have to encounter this. But I'll read more on these conditions.

Now they have the legend listed as show/breed potiential, does that mean the dog can't be a companion puppy?
