OK, so I am really worried about Buddy now.

See this thread for full story: http://www.chazhound.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26564

Buddy is NOT acting normal by any means at all. He is super freaked out. He won't go in the backyard, he's peed in the house twice now  and if we do happen to get him outside his ears are back, his tail is tucked and his body language just screams "get me outta here."

We're really worried, Buddy is never this high strung and he's never been afraid of the backyard before. My husband cut back all trees and bushes so we can see all corners of the backyard clearly and Buddy still refuses to go out.

He stays by one of us at ALL times, doesn't sleep during the day (tries to but gets freaked out at the slightest noise or disturbance). He's super tense, doesn't want to play and is constantly "scanning" the house and front and back yards.

It's gotten so bad that I'm debating on whether we should take him the vet to see if they can give him anything to calm him down. It's really that bad.

He always plays in the backyard, he has his pool and the deck which he loves to sunbathe on. He likes to run around and chase his toys.

Can anyone offer any insight? I'm really at a loss here...

we had a great dane when i was growing up that was stung when he was out in his yard. From that day on we had to push him out, he wanted nothing to do with it. I know that isn't a bit of help but that was what happened. I wish i could say he got over it but he never did.

Geez poor Buddy!! :(

Take the cat outside with a harness and leash(if you have one) and see if the cat is scared like Buddy is.

If so you know there is SOMETHING out there..

animals have a 6th sense. Maybe you guys have some groundhogs(gofers?) underground and he knows they are there??

Awww Buddy :(

This will sound dumb but do dogs see supernatural things? Things us humans dont see? Maybe he saw a ghost.

You can hit me now :p

I hope he's truly ok and will get better soon :)

Aww poor Buddy, It's strange that he doesn't want to go out there anymore.

It's times like this that I wish I could speak to animals so I could ask him whats wrong. Like others have said he could have been stung.

Do you have a friend that oculd bring a dog over he likes? Try to get it to go back ther eand if it won't then I'm not sure what to do:p But if he will go back then try to get your dog to go out and play. Maybe the encouragement of another dog will help.

I remember sitting in my room on my bunkbed at my dads when I was like ten and my cats turned to the middle of the room(not towards eachother) and started making that low growl. That had to be the scariest thing ever. There could be something thats jsut creeping him out but hopefully he can overcome it.

Another thing I jsut thought of is some kind of rodent electronic thing. I ahve heard people say before that it'll really screw with other animals. Maybe see if a neighbor has one.

Hammie wouldn't walk on our path we usually use for a couple days. on the third day I saw a snake. not a poisonous snake, but I guess he didn't want anything to do with it just the same. he's fine now, so I guess the snake moved on. something has him spooked...poor Buddy!!!

Yeah we're going to "camp out" in the back yard tomorrow... fill up Buddy's pool, bbq, do some yard work, etc.. I would take the cat out, but she's still under quarantine and even though she would be leashed I wouldn't want her to get away (worst case scenario).

We're going to give it a few days and see how he does. If it doesn't let up, I'm not really sure what we're going to do about it.

Thanks for the input guys!!

Nicole.

Could a neighbor have done something ?? I like the idea of bringing in a dog he knows and putting them both out for a game of ball with treats.

Luke had a few days similar to that following a thunderstorm. He got a bit better day by day, and was back to his normal self in the backyard within a week or so. Hope Buddy follows the same pattern. :)

Wouldn't you know it's pouring today. :( As soon as we get a nice "be out in the yard day" we're going to have some friends over for a bbq and have at least one of them bring their dog. We'll see how it goes.

As far as Buddy not going out in the backyard it's the same today. I had to walk with him out in the rain so that he would do his business. Poor little guy. I hope we begin to make progress soon!
