Now I don't live in Wichita, I am 120 miles to the west, but we get their news and this was the top story tonight. Arg! The people they interviewed irritated me(I think its in the video on the page). They were upset because the city council DIDN'T specifically target pitbulls. What idiots! Why should Pitbulls be singled out? Any dog can be made mean and I have had more problems with people and dog agressive labs. Every Pittbull I have ever met has been a big lovey marshmallow dog. And the fact that animal control can deem a dog dangerous even before it has done anything to deserve it? WTF?

Well, I don't like the arbitrary power that gives animal control . . . but if a dog has given every sign of being inclined to bite . . .and is allowed to run loose (chases people aggressively is one of the things mentioned) it may be better for everyone to declare it dangerous and take it away from its (irresponsible) owners before someone gets hurt. The thing that makes me nervous is that it gives a lot of power to animal control officers who are not famed for their actual understanding of animals . . .

it also makes me wonder, if its a toy poodle doing the chasing and the growling, will it be labled as vicious? Or is it going to end up applying only to large dogs.

Well, it should be applied to dogs of all sizes, since the little dogs have been known to inflict very serious injury on small children . . unfortunatley, adults tend to view mean little dogs as funny . . until the toddler's nose is bitten off that is . . .
