it all depends on his quality of life...if hes ill/in pain and just isnt a happy dog anymore...it may be time to let him go...
if hes otherwise healthy and can get around and is generally a happy dog, give him more time...hell let you know when its time

I'm so sorry :( We put our cat down two weeks ago for the same reason... when they look at you and just seem miserable because they can't move anymore, I think it's time to let go...

I think only you can decide what and when to do what's best for Brutus. Remember, what you do is out of love for him.

My friend is going through the exact same thing and it's not easy. You will know when it's time.

Hugs to both of you.

Well guys the whole family is so sad today after a family member left us... he finally gave up after a couple of days of struggle...

Minnie, my wife said we need to let some 2 months to pass before having another puppy and I agree with her..

So sorry for your loss. RIP, good dog.

I hope you'll stay around these forums. Many of us have dealt with losses of our own pets, and we're also a great resource for when you feel the time is right to get a new dog.

Welcome to the forums. I wish it were under nicer circumstances for you, but we're glad to have you.

I don't know about the waiting. Maybe for some people it is the right thing to do but i think I speak for Grammy and myself, sometimes the only way to go on is to love again.

Rip Brutus. I am very sorry for you and your family.

I am so sorry for your loss. I think I waited 6 months after my English Bulldog passed away before I thought about getting another dog. Even then, I couldn't go with the same breed.

I'm so sorry for your loss. RIP Brutus.

Like others have said, when you're ready your heart will open up to another dog in your family.

Welcome, I hope you stay....

I'm so sorry. My friend had to say goodbye to his 14 year old dog today too who could no longer walk.

Your heart will tell you when and if it's time to get another dog to love and be loved by.

Brutus will be in your heart and memories forever.

I'm sorry about Brutus. I lost Doerak (black dog) to cancer last year. Dogs don't want to suffer any more than humans. They also don't like the indignity of having to pee on themselves. I sometimes worry that I put Doerak down too soon, but he was obviously in pain and wouldn't even move from his bed in the kitchen. When we went to the vet and he crawled up on the sofa and just let go. I knew it was the right thing to do. You will know when the time is right.
