My golden broke his front tooth in half, there is a sliver in the back that is completely lose by still attached to gums. He is not in any pain, still eating/playing/chewing toys like always. What should I do? If I can avoid another expensive vet visit that would be nice but if I should go then I have no problem doing that either.

Is there a way I can attach a pic to this post?

if there's a piece totally off the tooth, but it's not falling off even with his normal routine, i'm voting go to the vet. liz had this happen and she had to have it extracted...

One of my dogs broke a tooth, and the vet said as long as she wasn't in pain or the area didn't get infected, we could leave it alone and the nerve would die off. The vet was right. That was 2 years ago. The tooth is a different color than the others but still there.

I'd have an issue with the fact part of it is loose but attatched. I usually agree if not in pain leave it, but with a piece hanging it may have to be removed.

I agree with PlottMom and MafiaPrincess. I'd have it at least looked at by a vet.

I'd be worried about the different color. One of my dogs had broken teeth - caught too many frisbees in mid-air - and they were fine until the day I noticed that one was discolored. It was light pink, and my 'internet diagnosis' was bang on with what the vet said. The tooth was infected and had to go if I didn't want bacteria entering my dog's system through the mouth. I had it extracted for about $300 and he's doing fine without it. So I'd keep an eye on the color and if it's off, def have a vet take a look.
