Another bone coward here. I am so sorry and I am hoping against hope that he comes through ok. You know, it is these once in a million stories that turn me off bones all together. If you are feeding home cooked or raw and no longer want to give bones (and I don't blame you), just make sure you give a good calcium and phosphorous suppliment.

Just stopping in to see if there is an update :(

(((((((HUGS)))))))) and prayers for Brody.

And like others have said, don't blame yourself. He has probably eaten a ton of bones and nothing has happened. Shoot, growing up, our dogs got all the cooked bones from steaks, roasts, hams..........everything but chicken/turkey. And they were fine..........you just never know when it's going to go wrong :(

Not sure how I missed this thread. Sending healing vibes to Brody and (((((HUGS))))) to you. You are not an idiot, you got a bone that you thought was safe. Even others on here said they would have thought it safe. Don't beat yourself up and please give an update soon.

The :hail:prayers are working! I did not get to talk to the vets but the clerk ran and caught him between rooms and he said they did another x ray this morning and an enema and she said a lot more came out of him. She said they had to sedate him to break it up. She said slowly but surely it is moving. So I believe tonight he will get another enema. They will give him x rays and another enema tomorrow morning. So I guess they will go through this process everyday until it is all out. She said he is not toxic I am assuming she means the sepsis that he does not have it. I am so out of my mind all I could think to ask her is if he has had any fever and she said she doubts it because she has not heard anything and I think he would have told her. Thank You for all of your thoughts and prayers.

If I hear anything else I will let you all know. I want to see him but the office is so small and busy. I don't even know if they would allow it. I have heard people on here talk about this and that it may not be a good idea because it will only upset the dog. I don't want to stir him up he did not want to go yesterday when they took him he was pulling and I had to go walk with them to the back. He is a one person dog he really does not worry much about the rest of the family. It is probably bad that I did not bring him around strangers more often.

I'm glad he's improving and I must say it's great what you're doing. I know so many people who would have just put him down or be complaining the entire time about the cost, you are a very good mom to Brody. What a scary thing to happen, nothings entirely safe and raw bones are great for them, you just never know what's going to happen. (((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))

It is hard to believe people would just put their dog to sleep but I know it happens.:( I would do anything for this dog believe me I don't care what it costs and I don't have money. They asked for a $200 deposit so I put that on one card and I have a credit card for Brody with $1000 on it and I have another card with $160. If it is over that I am sure he will wait until next Thursday for the rest of it. I just won't eat next month.:lol-sign: I hope he continues to improve and gets to come home soon.

Maybe if you put up a paypal option or set something up with the veterinarian, some of the chazzers would be willing/able to donate to the cause?

That is so nice but I would hate to do that unless the need REALLY came up. I get paid next Thursday also so I am sure the vets will wait a few days. It is nice to know people would be willing to help. Thank you!!!

If every animal owner had this attitude we wouldn't have the problems we do.

I just noticed this thread but I'm glad Brody is doing better. Stay positive and hopefully they will be calling you in a few days to come pick him up. Keep us updated!

Keep fighting, Brody!!

By the way, I was a little bit surprised by this:

Pet stores really shouldn't sell crap that is going to do serious damage do an animal.

Another reason why our dogs never get Greenies, any type of rawhide or nylabones.
They do get the beef marrow soup bones raw though and as soon as they have hollowed them out and ate the meat off of them, they get it taken away from them and into the garbage.
It was a raw bone. There was no way for her or a pet store to know that there was any risk in feeding it.

Just out of curiosity, why are you against Nylabones? If it is appropriately sized (so the dog won't swallow it) and it is the "Durable" variety, they seem perfectly safe to me.
