Brittanies are wonderful dogs! The "spaniel" was officially dropped quite a few years ago. They are a high-energy breed which retains its hunting instincts; unlike most of the sporting breeds in the U.S. which now have 2 different breed "types" for dog shows or for hunting. In the USA, colors allowed are orange or liver spotted either color can also be tri-color or roan although they are rarer. In Europe, black spotted Brittanies are also allowed. Health concerns to watch for are: hip & elbow dysplasia; seizure disorders; thyroid disease; retinal dysplasia (RD); and progressive retinal atrophy (PRA).
