Hello,

my friend and I are having trouble deciding what breed her dog is. Again. We thought we knew, but I'm not so sure. His name is Harley, and he's 11 months old right now. We think it has something to do with a Shetland sheepdog :p

Here are two pics:

what does your friend think? If that dog isn't part collie, well, then I don't know what dog is!

I don't know what my friend thinks. She's not exactly as educated in the dog area, but she knows enough to be an owner. I do see some Collie, I don't know about Golden, though. We tried German Shepherd. I also think I see Shetland Sheepdog... not sure. I do enjoy puzzles! :p

DEFINATELY collie. Collies and shelties look alike, but he's definately more collie than sheltie.

probably collie X golden or collie X shepherd, most likely collie X golden

I've always got to chime in with the guess in left field.

English shepherd. http://www.englishshepherd.org/

there's a dog with similar markings here:
http://www.englishshepherd.org/sablewhite.htm

And the body type, including the more collie-like head, here:
http://www.englishshepherd.org/blackwhite.htm

The collie-ish heads are actually more common around here and I get the feeling the more Aussie-like head predominates in Western lines.

Is this dog active? Guardy? Show great interest in crittering? Maybe a little bossy?

This is a rare breed but not nearly as rare as it used to be, to the chagrin of my friends in ES rescue.

Hmm... I've only visited him a few times. He's really hyper, loves to jump. I'll have to find time to go see him again!

English shepherds are beautiful! But I still think he looks like a mix. More help is appreciated :D

I'm gonna have to agree with, Irenafarm.

Either that or what I thought of first was Collie/Belgian. :)

My vote is for rough collie+golden, but I wouldnt be surprised if he/she was a pure, but badly bred collie.
