Well, I'm guess I'm going to be the one to swim against the current.
You are in college? How much longer will you be in college for? If it is more than a year I wouldn't recommend getting any dog at this point. I speak from experience, having seen too many college students get rid of their dogs because of this or that and I'm in college myself. A college student's life is one of the least stable life styles of any group of people. Things change from semester to semester. You might have enough time right now but a year down the line something could change and than you'd have to re-home your dog. There is also the fact that most college students are severely lacking two things that every dog requires: time and money. Even right after college, this is the time people are just getting into their career, buying a house, getting married, having kids, moving, etc...Can you honestly say you will be able to keep the dog through all of this and your college years? Let's say you are 20. Assuming the dog lives to be 15, you will have him/her until you're 35. Alot of major life changes take place during this time. I'm not saying it's impossible, but it is highly unlikely, at best.
If you're a part-time college student, or just finishing up your degree, that may be another story. It would cut out atleast most of the college drama, but it is no small undertaking for a college student.
