In the south, anatolians are used quite often as LGD's. Since it gets pretty hot during the summer, and anatolians are relatively easy to come by, plus they have a short (albeit double coat).

Some neighbors of mine had two out with their goats. They had a litter of puppies last year. I think it depends on the area you live in.

ETA: bleh.. I read your post wrong Shai, but the info still stands. Anatolians seem to be far more popular than I thought that would be, at least around here.
Yeah that's kind what I mean. There's a farm with a herd of goats for sale down a couple miles from me. Their LGD, an Anatolian, comes free with the herd if desired. They are just pretty common as working LGDs here. Great Pyrs too. You see other breeds but those are by far the two most common. And "American Mastiffs" (Anatolian X English Mastiffs) as pets :rolleyes:

Yep, when I worked in the shelter down in Texas we got lots and lots of purebred pyrs. A few anatolians and a lot of LGD mixes. If it's a rural area, I wouldn't be surprised to find anatolians and anatolian mixes around.
