I know that consitency is one of the key factors in proper training. So I make sure to use the same techniques when training my fiance's puppy Kodi.

I use the NILF training methods. Every time my dogs want something they need to earn it. I have had many dogs in my life and know this is not a cruel method and many dogs respond beautifully to it.

But my fiance doesn't. Kodi had a problem of diving into the food bowl before you even put it down. So I had been training him to sit and wait until I told him he could eat. I had him to the point where he would do very well and I could place the bowl right under his nose without him going after it.

Well I've been working longer hours this past week, and my fiance hasn't been using this training method. He just puts the bowl down and walks away!! I went to feed Kodi tonight and he practically took my hand off getting at the food!

I'm upset because weeks worth of training have now gone out the window. Any suggestions on how I can keep Kodi on his right path with NILF even when the Dadyy neglects the training?

Sounds like your fiance is the one who needs the NILIF training. The dog can't be trained if everyone who interacts with him doesn't do the same thing.

Same problem here with our Lab. The lack of consistency caused confusion in her learning. Maybe you should be the official "feeder" of the pup. Hopefully there is a way to do that when working long hours.

One question - is this your fiance's dog, or your dog? Does your fiance train his dog himself, did he ask you to train his dog?

I'm just playing the devil's advocate here, but is there a possibility that he prefers a different training method for his own dog? If my fiance ever tried to perscribe a training method onto my dogs, I'd have to have a little "discussion" with him. In the same vein, I don't attempt to train his dog without making sure it's what he wants for HIS dog. True, his dog is taking a bit longer to learn how to behave than mine, but she's learning a lot just by observing my dogs. And she's a puppy, I can't get on her case too much... ;)

I've always used NILIF as a temporary training tool, and I've been able to wean my dogs off it quite nicely. my dogs are probably the most babied and spoiled dogs on the planet, but they're insanely well-behaved and easy-mannered. My dogs sleep in my bed, get to lick the plates after every meal, and frequently get "free gifts". However, they don't expect or anticipate any of these things... it's odd, but somehow they've learned how to be very well adjusted dogs.
